Forgot he was associated with Bournemouth. Here's his resume, from the Club: "A former Scotland international, Grant started his senior playing career in 1982 with Glasgow Celtic, making more than 350 appearances before moving to England to sign for Norwich City. His first coaching experience was as player-coach with AFC Bournemouth before assuming the position of assistant manager at the South-Coast club. He became the assistant manager of West Ham United and, along with Alan Pardew, helped the side reach the 2006 FA Cup Final. Five months later, Grant was appointed manager of Norwich where he remained for 12 months. He has held first team coaching roles at West Bromwich Albion and Celtic under Tony Mowbray. He also worked under Alex McLeish at Birmingham City, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest"
Well of course it does if you're always looking on the down side of everything. I think it's an interesting appointment that may turn out to be an excellent one. I lived in Scotland when Grant was at Celtic and remember him then as a feisty, combative midfielder who always gave everything. That attitude sounds like just what we want more of at the club. His time at Bournemouth (can't remember who the manager was, it may have been Sean O'Driscoll who always played progressive, attacking, passing football) went well enough that he soon got picked up by a club in a higher division. He was well thought of down here. Since then he's added a lot of experience and it's reasonable to assume that as a result he's a better coach now than he was back then. If you're going to hold his association with the likes of Alex McLeish against him, then other clubs could dismiss Kit Symons as mediocre because he was involved at Fulham under Jol. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt? It's not as if you're short of other targets for your trademarked vindictive scorn.
Vindictive scorn ?.I have put forward an opinion that his past record does not enthuse me very much, time may prove that he is the man we want. My past criticism on whoever, is, and was based the 90min week in and out, that I drew my conclusions on.
