I'm losing my mind, the pop ups are everywhere, when I click on a forum thread I get redirected on an ad in new page. Some words (on forum) are colored green and represent links to more ads. I use adwcleaner and junkware removal tool. They did remoce some viruses but I still have the problem. Can anyone help me?
Thanks for pointing that out El Pirata. I'm using Chrome on a laptop, not having the ad problem as I use ad blockers but something is not right this evening. I have tried and now failed three times to post a youtube link on a music thread and the tab with this page locks up. I have cleared my cache and have done an adware scan and it' still not working.
I'm still running an 11 year old Dell desktop on XP, so after April 8th wanted to get off IE 8 as my browser. I installed Chrome and was annoyed by all the ads, but AdBlock works great for me (easy install). http://download.cnet.com/Adblock-for-Chrome/3000-33362_4-75000931.html
Cheers for the feedback Kilburn. I already have this installed and totally agree it works very well. I'm having a slightly different problem to our El Pirata. I guess your not having any issues. Thanks again, I'v PM'ed Roller just to make the powers that be aware. I'm off to get some ZZzzz's now. Peace!
Sorry Kilburn, Iv just realized you were replying to El Pirata's post. Again cheers for the useful info anyway!
No problem on Safari or Opera on Nexus 7. I steer clear of Chrome, because Google just use it to get marketing data.
Perhaps AdBlock for Chrome works better with an XP OS relics like mine. It is well reviewed too. IE 8 with XP has too many security flaws.
Yes, I realize that - I make sure I'm not logged onto any account when I browse, as they encourage you to do of course.
I have Chrome and it seems to work well. I have found anti virus systems to be more of a hindrance at times but am happy with what I have at present.
Microsoft Security Essentials is free, works just fine, is totally compatible with the OS and kept up to date to guard against the latest threats (unless you have XP of course). I have found from previous experience that Norton, McAfee etc. really slow your system down, especially with an older computer. MSE is also recommended by one of our young IT programmers.
If you like Chrome but don't like tracking, use SRW Iron browser - much faster, and doesn't have the bloatware/plug-ins that Chrome has. I'm running it on three laptops and never had a problem
Norton and McAfee are worse than viruses! Everyone should use adblock, it sounds like El pirate may have a dodgy extension as I've never seen that, I wouldn't even bother with any sites that had ads if I didn't have a block installed. Firefox has got good again with the release of 30 so you could look at that too.
Mate, you are bang on. I had a annual subscription with Norton and wow, they really stuff my system up big time. Not only that, to get rid of it out of my system was major surgery. It didn't want to go nicely. Yes, I do now use MS and it works great. Cheers.
I have now changed to Firefox and my problems are now solved. I recomend this usefull free clean up tool for anyone who does not allready have it. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner I run this every day, helps keep your PC crap free!
Yeah, because they hijack your browser, steal all your personal information, corrupt all your files and render your pc unusable
All of them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norton_AntiVirus#Criticism Did you know Norton have a removal tool because it can be virtually impossible to uninstall?
