I'm praying for decent cup runs (we need silverware... Even the Carling Cup!) so we may get added fixtures there. as for our bench... Our bench has been a joke for years, I can't remember a tme when we had a decent bench

As a Sunderland fan I really hope you guys sign Stewart Downing - would be fantastic to see Bent's face as the 2 players he was quoted about ("When you see the quality of Ashley Young and Stewart Downing you think this is a great club to play for") when he signed for Villa sold...

He'll be next I reckon - not be long till he asks for a transfer

Who would buy Bent though? Didn't he cost Villa £24M? Can't see somebody coming in with more than that for him.

And I did feel a bit sorry for Sunderland when Bent put in that transfer request. Sunderland got his career back on track after he was treated pretty badly at Spurs and he shoved it back in your face by going to Villa.

On the subject of Downing, i'd prefer Mata! But I think Downing is a solid Premier League player who would do well for us if we brought him.

    <ok>

I will honestley be sick if we sign Downing for £19million pound's. That's just me, I never rated him and I think there are better player's out there at a better price.

I trust the King, I know there is rhyme and reason, good to see we have some money to splash, but this is it for me in terms of the names as of late ( Adam, Downing, Young before united, Jones same as young, etc) I just think there are better and cheaper options! You mean to tell me Adam will cost the same as Nuri Sahin who just won the Budesliga, full time Turkish international, younger than Adam and just went to Real?????

He went to Real because he basically forced the move through himself (i.e. we'd never have got him even if we'd bid) and had a buyout clause of around 7m Euros. I imagine they never renewed his contract, hence the low clause.

Suarez do you know if Ozil was the same? He was bought for something like 10-14 mil or something? Another bargain buy in this market for that type of quality. What I am saying I guess is there are other Sahin's out there that you can get for the same price as what Adam would be but for me much better. I don't know all's buyout clause or what, but they are out there.

It was similar, only there was no buyout clause in play. He had a year left on his contract and I think the situation was 'Let me go to Madrid or I'll just go there on a free next summer anyway.' So that's why it was quite a low fee.

Damn, we need to find these players so we staop paying so over the odds! I mean 19 mil for downing? 16 for hendo? I know they are prospects, will strengthen our team but there have to be some players we can get for immediate help, still young, etc.

An example, and a thread was started about this player, is Diego. being released by Wolfsburg, got to be a low fee there for a young, top player who is lacking confidence that KK should be able to give back to him!

he is a pussy. he can leave for all i care, a player should never pull out of as many tackles as i have seen him do, he isn't a good passer, isnt too fast or strong, the only thing going for him is his wicked shot. At least aquilani has brilliant passing ability, and i'd rather sell him and see more of shelvey

An interesting slant on developments. However, there is one only quote and that is from 'a friend'. We hear that FSG want to cut the wage bill - Jove etc. but such a stance appears to run contrary to their international stance on players pay.

If Miereless actually is for sale then the rationale for that is probably far more complex than a spat over pay.

I've heard he had a contract improvement clause before. Not that that makes it true but it sounds plausible that it's part of the reason. Kenny doesn't see him as crucial so FSG don't see the wage improvement as crucial.

We haven't paid £19m for Downing. We don't want to pay £19m for Downing.

But if we end up paying over the odds for players the manager wants I'm delighted because we sure as heck weren't when we should've been.

Why the low fee? Why isn't anybody else in for him, even in Germany? He hasn't been contacted by any club. His discipline record is shocking, his best seasons were at Werder and he's not currently in the Brazil squad after his early promise.

At least Babel made the Holland squad.

66 - Raul Meireles created 66 goalscoring chances for Liverpool in 2010-11, the same amount as Luka Modric at Spurs. Unsettled.

I disagree. Yeah he pulled out of a few tackles (first season and clearly not used to the physical aspect of the premiership). He is an exceptional passer and his awareness of the game is outstanding. He may not be that fast or strong, but his footballing brain clearly makes up for that. In my opinion he would be a great asset to any team. The only thing that lets him down is his age! and that cant be fixed <ok>

The reason Meireles is reason is because of the owners, not because he is unsettled. He signed on a cheap contract (30k p/w) because he was keen to play in the Premier League, and was assured by the old board that it would de doubled if he performed well.

FSG don't want to up it to the 60 or 70k Meireles wants, and therefore he was told he was transfer listed.
