Who should retire from international football this summer? Roon or Gerrard or both? Still think Rooney has something to give, especially in qualifiers. And to be fair he was close to more than one goal with a great free kick and good header
Roo will still get goals in the qualifiers, so keep him. Stevie Me is getting older, so should step down
Gerrard will def retire from International football, that was always going to be the case I think even before the World Cup
Why would rooney retire? Drags us to the WC and then has a good game v uruguay. He wasnt amazing v italy but he was ok. His world cup on a personal level is fine
Rooney isn't old- but he's over the hill. By the time the next world cup comes around he'll be past it for sure. The older players should retire- (Rooney, Gerrard, Johnson, etc) make way for a new younger squad to meld and grow together for the next tournament.
He hasnt missed anything others wouldnt miss. The chances were not open goals. The header was close but not exactly easy, how many people did it pass before rooney? 20? The free kick and shot were by no means easy chances.
Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, and anybody else from the "golden generation." What a massive let down they've all been.
Serial specialist in failure? He's won everything except for the league. That's hardly a specialist in failure. / he is well past peak now though.
Voted both, although it's not like I'll be unhappy if Rooney does not retire. If Rooney is a failure, he has scored a ffffffing load of goals for a failure. However, he's not a big tournament player, and he's categorically proven himself not World Class. I think we shoe-horn the lad into the side, as Man Utd frequently shoe-horn him into their set-up at the expense of overall performance. Unfortunately, we don't have an array of incredible talent to make up for this short-fall, as Man Utd usually do. He should have had a hat-trick last night. I'm not going to tiptoe around the issue. He was ****. My nan could have scored them. The difference between the teams came down to Suarez vs Rooney, and that just highlighted how woefully short he is from the top players in the world. Sturridge missed a couple, sure, but Rooney's were utterly shocking misses. He doesn't cause the opposition any problems. He's not got that youthful pace of old, he's not tall, he's not that strong on the ball, and his shooting isn't precise enough at the top level. Opportunities are so limited when you get to the actual tournament, you can't afford to score one chance in five. You won't get five chances. Therefore, if you aren't scoring you need to be doing something that will enhance the team. If he was out of the picture, I think Rodriguez (pace), Carroll (height), Walcott (pace) etc need to step up as strikers, and Barkley, the Ox etc need to step up as attacking midfielders. Neither have disgraced England. They've just simply had their names written down a piece of paper as "the best English players" by the various coaches, and then the managers have decided to just play the first 11 in some mish-mash formation, but their peak has passed and I think we have to look to other options and a new strategy.
Unlike Roo, who has won the lot, #specialistinwinning No title = fail Even Luke Chadwick has a title medal #specialistinwinning
You sound a little bitter, dont blame roo, its Your Captain that cost us the world cup. Just admit it, he cant pass, run or defend. Captain fail should retire, and do it now.
Rooney always played well in big games v Chelsea. Gerrard useless: 1 goal in 36 games, one own goal and two assists: for drogba and Ba. Steve also went nine seasons without scoring v united
