Robben's run was the fastest sprint ever recorded in a football match, clocked at 37kph. Pretty impressive. http://www.espnfc.com/fifa-world-cup/story/1888364/spains-arjen-robben-becomes-worlds-fastest-player
Vintage England. I really don't care very much anymore. I used to. But after watching the same **** for years I can't be arsed to get wound up about. It.
Not good enough again and we can have no complaints. Uruguay should have put the game out of sight at the start of the second half.
Disagree kent, i think we were good enough but 1 player made a huge difference. Attacking wise we have better than i can remember for a long long while, and 95% of the time good at the back its just those stupid falling asleep moments.
You can't blame Suarez for being a World Class footballer FFS! Blame the Premiership for not investing in English players over the last 15 years!
Not blaming suarez, just saying his intelligence and reading of the game was a huge difference and got the victory, this cup was always going to be transision for us and with some of the young attacking flair we have its exciting, i can't get all the doom and gloom, this world cup we have been performing better than many a year.
Suarez is a class act,a truly world class player. England are second rate,we have no world class players and the current team are probaply the worst team I have seen representing us. We are second rate at best.
Guru old son we will never come close to winning the World Cup again in my life time! We are so far behind all the other major world footballing teams it's embarrassing!
Agree 100% Walky,we are light years behind the major teams We have no real flair players, and the youngsters coming through will all have their promise coached out of them. If anyone can see any future for us I don't know where it is.
VERY well said!!! Has CH been coaching the English defence - their 'schoolboy' defensive errors reminded me so much of some of our defensive lapses last season???
Why are we the only country that still insists on our 12 year olds playing competitive football on a full size pitch every week with the emphasis on strength? We are so backward looking in this country! The emphasis has to be on technique and skills and finding space and close control! Not to see who can hump it the furthest on a full size pitch! I despair I really do!
I appreciate that it's something your totally unfamiliar with, but you'll forgive me for correcting you I'm sure: unless you're referring to the egg-shaped-ball game, it is in fact the Premier League.
Thank goodness that bilge is over and done with, I can get on with enjoying the tournament and not have to put up with Adrian Chiles "dreaming" every 5 minutes with stupid interviews with stupid England players boring me to tears about things everybody (should) be bored to tears about. Thank goodness it will be the end of Gerrard, we can all now talk about the wonderful new, bright and exciting young players that cannot pass or control a ball like all those bright and exciting young players that went before them (but we'll pretend that they can). Most Countries cycles bring about change, this Country's however will do nothing of the sort until there is an admission from the top just how bad English football is. That would of course lead to resignations, so will not happen. People will happily berate FIFA and blame them for all football ills, our own FA has far, far more reasons to be scorned. It really is so bad its funny.
As an example of how far behind we are (stats pulled from elsewhere so can't verify accuracy admittedly). The UK has ~2,900 coaches qualified to UEFA B standard. Average salary for those coaches is £16k, and the cost of the course is £30k The Netherlands have ~20,000 UEFA B coaches, who get paid £40k, and pay just £300 for the course. It's not just the Premier League, the FA need to seriously sort out the coaching situation. A lot of youth sides struggle to get Level 1 qualified coaches, never mind level 2 or higher.
I did consider staying awake to watch the game last night - so pleased I did not. I agree with Warky above that the PL does appear to have messed up English football, with the influx of foreigners coming for big fat salaries, and effectively sidelining the majority of emerging English talent, all for the sake of promoting itself and cashing in as the "Best League in the World". The back 4 for England - is that really the best we have to offer today? They are all good players, but none of them are in the class of some greats from the past - Butcher, Adams, Psycho etc Other than a few Liverpool and Arsenal lads (and they only made the bench), there are so few teams with really good young English players left in the top flight. While encouraging to see the 3 'Saints' lads on the bench, they have never proved themselves at the very top level, and still have not had that chance, although Lallana got 20 minutes.
totally disagree with this, did you not see Barkley when he came on and Sterling in the first game! We also have the Ox waiting in the wings, what we are lacking is young solid defenders that don't make schoolboy errors likes jags last night.
very disappointing performance against an equally average (bar one outstanding, half fit player) uruguay. agree with guru, we do have flair in the squad. most people felt we'd struggle to get through the group and once again, it was the old guard who failed to step up to the mark. our brightest players have been the likes of sterling and barkley and that can only be a good thing. defensively we were atrocious but we have been for the last two years since john terry 'retired'. there's no need for an over reaction. we were never going to win the thing, we weren't particularly likely to make the last 8, but our possession of the football has improved and we do have some young players emerging who are technically more gifted than those who are now fading. i hope we see the back of the likes of gerrard, lampard, maybe even rooney (though this is less likely) and start the euro qualifying campaign with a group of younger players who can grow as a team together. it is astonishing that england can lose their opening two games yet conceivably still get through! has that ever happened? i didn't think we deserved to lose to italy and i didn't think we should have lost last night having got back in it. a red card for godin might have changed events. fine margins.
