Since there is no football happening today of any importance- I have a non-football related question: Any of you Kayak? I've been a few times and love it- considering buying my own cheap Kayak. Any recommendations for the budget-minded? Anyone go kayak-camping? Pelican has good reviews and is dirt cheap... are they a good manufacturer. Would be mainly lakes and slow moving rivers for me... at first. If I go white water kayaking- I'd probably rent as there are no white water places in an hour radius of me. I would love to go Kayak Camping one day.
I don't personally. i suggest http://www.paddling.net/buyersguide/Kayaks.html?refer=GOOGLE_SK&gclid=CKLshtGahr8CFUIQ7Aod1RIA4w
I've heard Wilderness Systems are a great brand- they keep coming up in my searches. They're also above my price range though (at least for a starter Kayak).
I would ask my yankee collegues but i think they are more about power boats and shooting deer than anything.
oh and the one guy i might ask is down on Chesapeake bay some place on camping holiday right now so after that... no clue.
....or when they need a dump How much are you looking to spend Milk? Sevylor do some decent stuff at budget level but as always with these things you get what you pay for. Obviously I hesitate to ask this but are you after a rigid one or an inflatable?
Rigid. Sevylor is more of an inflatable brand aren't they? Do they make regular Kayaks? I actually had a Sevylor boat back in university. A 6 person infaltible... although only comfortable for two... lol! Used to take it out on the lake to study for exams in REAL peace. I still have it... although not confident it still holds air in the water... and it certainly doesn't move through the water like a Kayak. Haven't taken it out of its tub in 8 years. Pelican make a couple of 10' rigid ones that are on sale as low as $200 in my area at the moment. A sit on top, and a recreational one with cockpit. Living in the climate I live in- I think I would prefer a sit-on-top style even though it sounds like they may be a little less stable because centre of gravity is higher. Seeing nothing but good reviews for them (for the price)... some people claim they are not as snappy through the water as more expensive brands... but I just want something sturdy to learn on... most launching places around where I am are flat**ter or slow moving rivers. I'd be buying two, not one, if I got one... so any variance in price is double the price of an individual boat. If it is a hobby I stick with- may buy a better more expensive touring one in a few years (especially if I go camping with it). There are a few river systems near me when you can camp beside the rivers.
I'm not a big fan of sit ons just because your kit gets soaking (in European weather lol) and anything other than flat calm water they are a pain in the arse (fun at first but you get bored quick). 200 notes for a 10' rigid one sounds vfm to me and if it's just for recreation you can't really go wrong with something like a Pelican. Sevylor do both mate although the cheaper ones are inflatables obviously.
