Im just happy that we won't have everybody and their uncle saying how we should copy them in everything they do. the end of a golden era for them.
must agree with dave that RVP is the one to beat, first for the pass, then for the technique to get so much power was incredible.
It wasn't the power of that header I found astonishing - I didn't think it was a bullet header at all. It was the fact it was guided so well - the perfect lob, but with his head. A very difficult skill
What i meant was that he got as much power as he did on it, but you are right rob it was guided so superbly i just can't get bored watching it.
i preferred robben's goal against the spanish where he turned on the afterburners to the rvp header, as good as it was. the whole drama of the moment, making it 5-1 against the double-european and world champions added to the quality of the goal. cahill's goal was sensational and in terms of technique, the best goal scored so far.
I agree! I also loved the Chilean opener against Spain last night! Absolute cool calm precision under so much pressure. Absolute genius in my opinion!
I normally judge something like this as when you explain it to somebody who hasn't seen it, Cahill's you could give it a decent whack but I just can't think how you would even start explaining RVP's header, it was just an absurd bit of quick thinking and technique that we probably won't see ever again.
i have seen a very similar goal. i can't for the life of me remember who scored it or even the match but when rvp scored it i did try to find it on youtube, to no avail
I loved the first Chile goal. An absolute cracker. Agree Cahill's was technically the best. I did enjoy Robben's goal too, punishing as it was, but it was the remarkable slow-mo of RvP's goal that got me; it came just before half time and it was like a bubble had burst. Quite extraordinary because Spain were only 1-1, but their heads went down. Shows how important scoring just before half time is too. I'm with Guru - I really don't remember seeing anything like it in terms of timing, deep lying pinpoint cross, delectable finish and then the aftermath. There have been some great goals, and games, already.
spain suffered from similar problems to city last season. plenty of possession but no pace and lacked a quality killer ball. nobody is going to tell me that diego costa is a bag full of ****e but just as poor old rvw and hooper found to their detriment, you're only as good as the service provided to you
It was heartbreaking to see the demise of Xabi Alonso right before my eyes! He has always been a favourite player of mine and a top, top, top player but this sadly was a tournament too far for him! A terrific player in his pomp but the legs and desire have gone from his game.
oh yeah definately, not knocking cahill's goal whatsoever. this is something this world cup has given us and that is so many wonderful goals.
I agree he was dreadful last night, but against Netherlands I thought he was ok and, while they were 2-1 down already, I felt the Spanish team lost all vestiges of cohesion when he was taken off.
Iker Cassiles will never play for Spain again! He has had an absolute shocker! 3 goals are down to him and basic errors! 2 against the Dutch and the second goal last night.
Obviously they're completely different goals but it instantly reminded me of Holt's second against Wolves in 2012. I know Holt tapped it in afterwards but it's one of very few times that I've seen a player lob the 'keeper with his head.
The one World Cup header that was more spectacular (imho) than Van Persie's was a fabulous header by Henrick Larrson where he had no right to get anywhere near the ball, he just ran and threw himself at the ball. Breathtaking!
