Here is the latest news from thebuearmy; Leicester City have joined the hunt for Preston North End defender Sean St Ledger and Peterborough United striker Craig Mackail-Smith. Reports that City have tabled a bid of £750,000 for the Republic of Ireland international St Ledger are unconfirmed. Such a figure, however, is unlikely to succeed in capturing the 26-year-old, who was the subject of an unsuccessful £1.5 million bid from Ipswich in January. The Tractor Boys are believed to have maintained their interest and are expected to now offer £1 million for the Birmingham-born centre back. The Lillywhites are resigned to losing one of their most consistent performers after their relegation to League One, but will try to hold out for a seven-figure fee. City are looking to strengthen their defensive options and they are still pursuing returns for Ben Mee and Miguel Vitor after the defensive duo impressed on loan last season. Mackail-Smith has been considered a possible target by City as they look to bolster their attacking options. There have been unconfirmed reports that a £3 million bid has been accepted by Championship new-boys Peterborough. Several clubs have expressed an interest in the 27-year-old and Posh have reportedly accepted bids from three clubs, including a Championship side. Talks with one unnamed Premier League side have collapsed. Posh director of football Barry Fry has revealed West Ham United have also enquired about Mackail-Smith, but have yet to bid. The former Dagenham and Redbridge striker has been linked with City since Nigel Pearson's tenure and has a prolific goalscoring record in the lower leagues. He netted 10 goals in his one and only season in the Championship two years ago, and has been capped by Scotland. Meanwhile, the Mercury understands talks with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel's representatives have begun, but there is still a long way to go before a deal can be completed. Schmeichel was shocked when Leeds United announced on Monday that they had accepted City's bid, believed to be £1 million, and knows he has no future at Elland Road. Public statements from manager Simon Grayson and chairman Ken Bates mean there is no way back for the 24-year-old Dane, and Leeds will be eager for Schmeichel to complete a quick switch to City. The Mercury understands Leeds have not received another bid for Schmeichel, and do not want a situation of having to deal with an unwanted player when they return to training on Thursday. However, Schmeichel is considering all his options and City have other goalkeeping possibilities.
The Kasper thing seems to keep rolling on. Leeds have signed Rachubka and skysports linking us to Kasper again saying talks are starting with Leeds wanting rid by next thursday as start of training and he has fallen out big stle with Bates and Larry. Odds on skysports of Heskey signig for us at evens! Though the Emile thing had gone off the boil especially with McLeish saying clean slate for every player. Emile keeps his cards very close to his chest so rumours wil be at a minimum with him. Emile and Maynard up front!!!
Kasper didn't start discusions with us straight aftrer the bid was made, as he was on holiday, think it will be resolved by the start of next week, especially as there has been no other bids for him.
I Know Waller is fairly close to Heskey and he text him in Jan and Emile said not yet. Think Bruno would love to come back but I suspect he feels he'll do it when he is not quite Villa standards any longer or once we have raised our game/propensity to accommodate a player of his calibre. Apparently Waller text him again close of season and Emile said nothing so that time may now be here...................................................Broooooooooooooooooooooooooooonoooooooooooooooooo
problem is if we get promoted this year, theres a good chance we wouldnt want Heskey next year, unless its in a Steve Howard style "see the game out" role, and even then, only if he was on a free
I think this might be Heskey's last chance to come back. I expect we will overtake him pretty soon so if he wants it...now's the time!
Agree with last two posters, if he joins he joins now or not at all. If we go up, he will probably be a squad player on a good wage next season, but still in the prem at his favourite club
Hayley Gallagher is becoming the new Bert. She confirms the Shaun St Ledger interest on Twitter: "HayleyGa11agher HAYLEY GALLAGHER Paul is happy SStL may be coming to Leicester good friend of his and great player will do well" She goes on to say the sticking point is they want £2mill and we have offered £750k. So there is confirmation of sorts!
Maybe she is Bert?! I should think they do want £2m, everyone wants £2m from us, they know what we've got to spend. If he's worth £2m though (and remember they are skint, they can't afford to not sell players) then Hobbs is worth a lot more than £800K. As I've been saying, the transfer window works both ways, we have to realise this. Honestly I wouldn't be drooling over the prospect of Heskey now, let alone next season.
This person claims to play for LCFC and knows Hayley Gallagher, Shaun St Ledger and Andy Gray. http://twitter.com/#!/CharlieSays__ Who is it?
I've tried to stop but I can't!!! btw - I think Hayley Gallagher is PW11 on Foxestalk. Bert is still Bert.
Makes sense...no wonder LCFC staff can't resist giving her info! Plus lets face it no one is really called Bert
