Iniesta and Xavi too old, Casillas just found out for real why Mourinho dropped him.

Should have gone Koke, Fabregas and Mata in midfield.

    End of an era.

As PGF says, gutless. Simply didn't have it in them to show some fight at the start of this game. Piss poor.
That team needs to be rebuilt now. Life's probably a little too cosy for some of them I suspect.

Good luck Chile. A good team who have a good chance against Brazil but fancy they'll come unstuck against the first team who can both live with them technically, energy wise and pump balls into the box to a decent centre forward or 2.
If they draw with Holland in last game they'll go through in second place.
I think that means they will then meet Brazil (providing they have topped their group.
If they can squeeze past Brazil I reckon they will meet the Ivory Coast in the quarter finals. Would love that because Bony would be nailed on to score I reckon.
They've certainly spiced up the knockout stages now.
Spain's style and their continual success had started to get boring.

Quite sad really. That's the last we'll see of one of the best teams ever assembled. End of an era.

This wasn't a Spanish story , this was a Holland and Chile story imo ..... although the Spainsh seemed unsettled , these are two very good teams representing this group and I uspect one will be in the final . Chile were dogged at defending everywhere on the pitch and the Spainsh never got a moment on the ball without a Chilean on him instantly .. great performace .

What a magnificent performance from Chile. Played their hearts out for the whole 96 minutes. Holland are in for a very tough final group match.

Spain were woeful and a lot of blame has to go to Del Bosque, some strange team selections. Costa's got a lot to prove now.

Has tippy tappy football been found out? In the same way Swansea were "found out" by pressing high up the field and harrying in possession I could see parallels with this game. The big difference is that Spain should have the players good enough to deal with it. Team selection and trying to accommodate Costa have cost them big time but maybe they needed to adapt anyway, it just didn't come off.

As has been said end of an era. As some predicted, a good tournament for Chile. So much for the demise of South American football eh? <whistle>
