After Benny's assault on his own player, do we really want someone with that attitude?
    New left back please MoPo!

Tippy tappy gets found out at last.

You can't bore teams into submission any longer. The teams who have looked most impressive play with far more pace and directness.

    I still love Benny! Lol.

Seriously speaking we need a new LB anyway, Rose isn't good enough and Benny's getting on past his best.

Although basing it on one game (though the World Cup is pretty much a scouts' paradise), that Ricardo Rodriguez of Switzerland looked VERY good in their opener, got both assists if I remember rightly. Young lad too, no doubt his price has already trebled though.

Croatia-Mexico is set up to be a fantastic deciding match. Not looking forward to the England match today though, I'm really worried we're going to get shown up despite what the media think.

Their MF looked laboured against Costa Rica, denying Cavani any service.
Suarez of this season OTOH will require only the slightest of chances.

After all that huffing and puffing about win bonuses before the tournament, The Abominable Lions were quite probably the worst team in this year's tournament. Incompetent refereeing saved them a hammering from Mexico, but their implosion against Croatia with Song elbowing Mandzukic for no reason while Benny squared up to his teammates on the pitch and in the tunnel was even worse.

Uruguay said that the reason they flopped against Costa Rica is because the team were feeling gloomy because the Brazilian authorities wouldn't let them bring their supply of dulce de leche into the country.

Apart from the fact they could've asked the Chile or Argentina squad to spot them some while the Uruguayan FA sent over a care package, are we supposed to believe there isn't a single supermarket near Uruguay's base in Belo Horizonte that doesn't sell the stuff?

Did Rooney and England play poorly against Italy due to customs confiscating their
    batch of Mars bars ??

I won't pretend I've watched him much, but the captain of the team which might be playing the best of anyone at the world cup, playing in a Poch-like system is one to think about. A coach on the field for a manager implementing a new system? (Though I don't think Poch has used three CBs and wingbacks, more people are going to try them after watching Chile and the Netherlands.)

I expected Chile's work rate, pressing and organization, but the incisive passing, which outdid Spain's, surprised me.

Uruguay did look old and tired against Costa Rica. I would think there will be a strong reaction of some kind or another from a team with a great history. A couple of younger starters and an energetic start are probably in the cards.

And tonight we have the English Mouser great philosophical existential debate :

What happens if Suarez does his usual penalty box prima donna antics, and England consequently
    lose as a result ??

Hart twice punches balls he should have caught. The first results in a corner, the second in a (brief) possession by Uruguay two feet from the goal. Nice going.

Rooney close. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

And let the commentator's game of cliche Bingo begin!

    We've checked off "inch-perfect" already.

As it happened, I heard the Monty Python parodies of BBC pompous announcers long before I heard the real thing. So I'm always wondering somewhere in the back of my mind: why are the commentators doing a Monty Python skit?

McManaman is better in the big games, as usual. When he gets himself psyched up, and, I would guess, liquored up, he can be pretty good. In routine games he just keeps repeating "Very disappointing," over and over again. Realista.

Welbeck's speed gets him into a good spot, then his poor touch wastes it.

Rooney misses from point blank range. What a surprise.

The replays reveal it's an atrocious miss--but also that Rooney has impressive leaping ability. Not all bad for him, then.

And Suarez scores off a much more difficult header. It all started from a giveaway in midfield.

Unlike England, Uruguay get back fast after they give the ball away.
