I don't think it's the time for dropping Rooney play him in his right position he has the number 10 shirt play him there if after 60 minutes if it's not working sub him for Ross Barkley play Sterling on the right thats where he plays for Liverpool I like Wellbeck but would like to have someone with a left foot playing on the left and I don't see too many in the squad so how about Luke Shaw playing in front of Baines a certain Gareth Bale was a Southampton left back!

it was dire ron! speaking of dire, brazil are truly underwhelming so far in this game, the only one of the "favourites" who seem to be really living up to that tag as far is Germany!

its Fabio capello clearly - he has some effect on keepers!!! poor quality games all round today, the brazil match was pretty entertaining but no goals, the Mexican keeper played an absolute blinder!

It's too late for me to work things out so, if we lose against Uruguay are we out?

depends on other results ron but makes it very tough for us regardless

    scenarios

    - if we lose and Italy/costa rica draw England are OUT of the world cup
    - if we lose and Italy win, then we would need to beat costa rica and hope Italy beat Uruguay - down to GD
    - if we lose and costa rica win, we will have to beat costa rica and hope Uruguay win - down to GD
    - if we draw and Italy win, we have to beat costa rica and hope Uruguay don't beat italy... if Uruguay do its goal difference
    - if we draw and costa rica win , we have to beat costa rica and hope italy dont beat Uruguay (draw is ideal)
    - if we draw and italy/costa rica draw, beating costa rica would put us through
    - if we win regardless then it is in our own hands!

Thanks for that Jose. That needed pen and paper, even with your help.

However, not sure about scenarios 6 and 7

Scenario 6. If we draw and Italy draw, that would leave the table going into the final games as:

    Costa Rica 4
    Italy 4
    England 1
    Uruguay 1

Beating Costa Rica would leave us and Costa Rica on 4
    So if
    (a) Italy don't lose against Uruguay, Uruguay would be out and we would be equal on 4 with Costa Rica for second
    (b) Uruguay beat Italy all 4 teams would be on 4 points

Scenario 7. If we beat Uruguay that will put us on 3 points going into the final game with Costa Rica and Italy either having 4 points each or one having 6 and the other 3, meaning we would have to win the last match to definitely go through.

Being ultra optimistic, if we win both our games and Italy draw both their games, we would top the Group.

For convenience, I have added into the thread header direct links to the Group Schedule (with scores), the Knock Out Schedule and the Rules concerning equal points in the Group Stage

my point with this but us that it would be in our own hand i.e. if we win, we get through. However ive just realised that's not necessarily right! and yeh I got scenario 6 wrong!

to put it simpily, win and our task becomes far easier!

Nothing could be that bloody tense Ron, i aged 10 years in under 2 hours! <yikes>

I might put a bet on Chile beating Spain 2-1 and Spain go out.

ron, nothing was tenser than that!!!

as for spain theres actually a good chance they could go out - even if chile were to draw with them spain will have to overturn a 6 goal difference swing

I agree, nothing could be that tense, especially the last 10 mins of the Bristol Rovers game. In fact I didn't manage to cope with it and had to go outside until it had finished.

What a disaster for Spain if they went out
