I've worked in both Russia and the Ukraine (not the latter since the troubles). The sense of nationalism in these countries, dwarves anything that we experience in the UK today. Their left winged politics, make UKIP look like the green party. There is deep rooted ethnic hatred and overt racism....Putin has tapped into this and the entire country is beating its chest in a sense of refound national pride. It's scary to be around tbh.

all i'm saying is thats what they all do. there's ukip pandering to one thing as a protest and across europe all sorts of protest votes going in. when you've partisan groups splitting a country this is what ensues. Its no different to Yugoslavia in the end. There's a big difference between what's happening in Western Europe and what's happening in Russia/Ukraine and the Middle East and even what happened in Yugolslavia. The changes in Western Europe are mostly driven by social-economics......if we'd not had the 2008 crash and the subsequent and inevitable fall in living standards, we all really wouldn't give a ****! Russia/Ukraine is mostly about the importance of the region strategically to Russia. It's had a puppet government in place for many years and now that's gone, it's inciting violence and playing on the nationality card in the Crimean region.....if that region wasn't so critical strategically, they'd not give a **** either! Yugoslavia was a nasty war based on ethnic tensions and happened after the government became very weak and economic conditions were dire. The Middle East is the scariest of all. Seemingly totally lawless and brutal in places.....and I hate to say this but only apparently manageable with a strong government with a nasty streak and a big stick. Driven out religious fanaticism, or at least that's the calling (I have no doubt that those who control the power in some of these radicalised groups are not that religious) .....I bet the US long for the days of stability under Saddam! For me, it's the radicalised religious lot that scare me. There is no end to what they are prepared to do, given the chance....and then they just melt away. Putin isn't stupid. We know where to find him if he gets lairy.
Considering they were never planning to wipe out Israel or even build a nuclear arsenal, it is probably makes sense, plus it does no good for Iran to have those crazy nutcases in Iraq actually control the country, it would be extremely bad for Syria and eventually Iran would have these nutcases in 2 countries to deal with. ironically these ihadists in Iraq are armed to the teeth with US weapons too.
