very true. I fully expected Argentina and Bosnia to go through anyways. This match has just confirmed it.
This is the first genuinely **** game. The fact that it's the 13th match of the tournament bodes well.
I think most folk are on 'the side' of Dixon, but there was deliberate unnatural contact (if you can measure the force of that last push, good on you) and that demands a sanction under current guidelines. The game has to be played under the current laws, not the ones we would prefer. The contact was not fictional, a sham or, if he had simply let his hand naturally trail off, an accident of reasonable collision; Pepe deliberately reversed the direction of his hand, back up to the face, which then made Muller's head move back - not a lot, but enough in that situation to be punishable. Pepe aimed to deflect from his action, but simply made it worse. I think most players experiencing that bit of a dig would either have gone down or retaliated, one would have stayed on and won a free-kick, the other a yellow as a minimum for Pepe and probably a red for himself. You're the manager, which do you want? It's ****, yes, but it's also the way it is and why many, me included, find the professional game increasingly more unattractive to watch.
Just seen bbc report the goals scored by müller. I thought it looked like Thomas Müller - the Bayern Munchen player, but itv were adamant it was this mueller chap. Can anyone clarify exactly who the goalscorer was?
It's not the omelettes , couldn't give a toss about them, why spell it mueller? Where did the 'e' come from?
It's a replacement for the umlaut and has long been used as a substitute for it in some UK publications (although tbf I see no reason for it in the word-processing era).
