Being born out there and having American relatives I have to be supporting USA for this one.
I'm still disappointed that Landon Donovan isn't in the squad, I think he would have been only one of a few players at this World Cup who will have been to 4 World Cups. Not sure if he will play much, if at all, but i'm interested in seeing Julian Green if he does feature.

I'm always conflicted with what I want from USA. I want to see them do well to an extent, and I'd love to see them progress in place of Portugal, but I'd hate them to go further than England, and imagining them actually winning the tournament fills me with a sense of dread. Imagine the smugness. Imagine them actually being successful at this sport they only just started caring about. They must not win a World Cup before we get another one.

You'd better start calling them USMNT or you'll never fit in. Speaking of which, when you do emigrate, are you going to stop supporting the mighty UKOGBANIMNT?

Don't worry Joe, I don't think that will happen any time soon! Although I like your optimism in thinking that we will actually win another World Cup! However, I guess they could easily go further than England (not this World Cup but in future ones), depending on the luck of the draw in the groups. And to be fair, if they did progress this time and we don't then I guess you would really have to say fair play!

That's true, I'll have to support the USWNT too. Go Hope Solo! (best footballer name ever)

And UKOGBANIMNT was only brought back for the London Olympics to ensure we had representation in every single sport. So it's unlikely a GB men's football team will exist again. Although there is some talk about bringing it back the GB women's football team.

Seeing as I'm hopeless at predictions I'm going for 4-4. Going to be a belter.

/r/soccer has done more harm than good for my view of the USTMNT. Didn't mind them before but some of the posters on there drive me up the wall.

Jozy Altidore is the worst striker I have ever seen in the premier league. If he scores tonight it will be because Ghana have a shocking defence - however I would bet my life savings that he doesn't.

It staggers me that he is getting paid to play. Didn't he get 0 goals again this season? If you put my mum up front for a premier league team I'm sure she could score at least a ricochet or something.

Surprised. He is a pundit on Yank TV. Ian Darke and Roberto Martinez commentate on a lot of the big games, actually not too bad compared to the shambles you've got at home.

Nah, he scored twice this season I think, 1 in the league and 1 in the league cup! He is more effective for the US team than he is for Sunderland though, and I actually wouldn't be surprised if he scored tonight.

Yeah I heard he was going to be a pundit now he's not in the squad. Has he had any more sly digs at Klinsmann since he's been on air?! At least we have got Henry as a pundit to offer some sort of American point of view.

Ghana team looks strong and they have players like Essien and Prince-Boateng on the bench...

Not sure about the USA defence, it looks a bit weaker than before.
