I selected "Number 9 - Sturridge out wide" purely because that's the best option given. However, my true answer would be upfront ALONGSIDE Sturridge!
ah that's bias talking as if you drop gerrard you need barry (not there thank god) or lampard... cos its that or the gurning ape jones who's got a turning circle of a bus... once again you ignore the clear hodgson tactic of sit there don't move do this do that... if its negative for rooney (which it is) then its as equally negative for gerrard, par se... its negative as while gerrard can't move he can get on the ball and retain it etc... but hodgosn doesn't want the ball, he wants lines of defense and patterns of play. Again the stats of 60+% possession for italy prove this and if you've 40% of the ball at best you've much less chance to actually use it.
A Utd fan saying old man Gerrard is the problem, all LFC fans blaming it on Welbeck and Rooney, funny that #whodathunkit
Gerrard cant move. thats the issue. He was exposed as Sterling wasnt covering ( rooney would have ) so it was henderson doing the leg work and Gerrard doing nothing. No bias about it, I watched the game. gerrard was the least involved and he had no impact in any way on the game. As i said, not all his fault but the only passenger was gerrard.
Anyone who actually watched the game will have seen him do nothing at all. Hes getting a free ride as hes the captain. Hes a ****e captain too for england ( long list of ****e captains to be fair ). Hes got even less of an excuse as he had all his mates around him. The 5 LFC players through the middle should have meant gerrard was brilliant. he was terrible.
you are right its all baines and jagielka's fault! how could we have missed it... or perhasp hart should have saved something. 5 lfc players on show, two tied to defense by manager, one RB and the best two england players reputedly in sterling and sturridge 2 Utd players (both out of position, especially wellbeck) 1 cheslea player 2 everton players 1 city player funny how theres all big club players bar baines and jagielka (showing dearth of defensive talent these days ) By process of elimination unless all 5 lfc players were MOTM then they can be targetted more easily than the others. the fact remains england's attack looks shoehorned..... welbeck and sturridge like others say makes no sense and I for one will say rooney deserves at least a bit of a go here and less abuse Its this simpe. there are FEW options. but there are ways to amke this work a bit better but the manager is the prime problem IMO.
UiR.. thsi is so laughable it's barely worth a response. you clearly are totally ignoring any thought of tactical discussion here. to say 5 lfc players through middle when in fact sturridge was stuck wide right at the outset and johnson is a RB means you are blown out of the water before we even get to the FACT that hodgson's tactics are not LFC tactics nor anything at all like them. I am glad however you have just admitted by default that gerrard for LFC last year must have been brilliant given said lfc cohort played together. Next time stick to the evidence not the bias...
over ruled.. now sit down before i find you in contempt and have someone change you form lying toad to blue waffler.
c'mon. stuck wide right... and he was glued to the touchline for all of about 5mins cos he ignored the instruction.
I didn't want Welbeck to play but he did well, especially defensively. I didn't want Rooney to be in the line-up but knew he would be, he didn't have his best game but he got and assist despite being tuck out on the left. Sterling played where I wanted him to and proved to be a good decision. I questioned Gerrard playing the line holding midfielder for Liverpool against the lesser sides, never mind the better sides. At International level he is always going to struggle on his own, especially when the setup is not designed for free flowing counter attacking football. Not one of those players is to blame! Only one person to blame; Woy! Its always been Woy and will continue to be Woy whilst he remains in the hot seat.
exactly what he and Henderson were ordered to do..... which is why hodgosn is a terrible manager. I blame the managers tactics not the players. I didn't expect gerrard to do great over 90mins in the heat anyway but the tactical straight jacket and ultra conservative approach that hodgosn brings meant neither player could play their game but conformed to his. Stick lampard and whilshire in and you get the same. Its like you guys forget the state of whilshires defending in the friendlies. we can play the blame him or him or even him game all we want but the truth is both LFC midfielders were told to do one thing, rooney was told to do another... none were exploited to the full of their abilities and englands plan was "let them have the ball, he's how we defend"
played well defensively is an awful compliment to a forward. but it is he hodgson way... i think everyone on here should fess up. did you or did you not think seeing this group that england were f'd primarally because of hodgson... I thought a lot on here did and now its coming to past why act like its unexpected. the only unexpected thing is despite the negativity we still couldn't hold 0-0 or 1-1...
Dirk Kuyt If we'd played a winger, they'd have been expected to help out defensively. Welbeck (and Rooney) was asked to play as a winger. Wish people would stop focusing on the clubs they play for, its England!
When you play with 2 holding CM players, they're supposed to cover the fullbacks. Look at how Barry and McCarthy do it for us. Gerrard and Henderson didn't do that on Saturday. Solely down to Hodgson? No idea, but whilst Rooney took deserved stick for not working hard enough tracking back, the same could have been said for those 2 - Gerrard in particular.
dirk had "effective" stats. highly effective but was as slow as a snail (for RHC) and had the touch of a bag of badgers...
