It would appear that this poor young Iraqi soldier is about to meet his end executed by ISIS forces dressed in a #17 NANI (Man Utd) football shirt.

I find it really discouraging, especially during the World Cup, to see the love of football so needlessly wiped out by the evil of ethnic conflict.

That ethnic conflict was brought about by Western invasion and mass murder. Calamatous is not a strong enough word to describe what's happened to that Country since that war.

Doesn't look like the Yanks trained much of an army either. As soon as shots were fired last week they took to their heels.

There were massive problems in that Country long before the West decided (wrongly imo) to invade. However, watching that tit Blair pontificating about the latest tragic mess is quite sickening.

Massive problems before the war. We all just went in and got rid of the tyrannical regime who, ultimately, were holidng the whole thing together (albeit with their own ethnic cleansing policies). Not too sure what these photos actually show as they are propaganda coming of the group's own twitter feed... fingers crossed it is not what is being reported. I felt the same thing seeing the NANI shirt and also an Ibrahimovic one in another picture, being the time of football and celebration on the other side of the world.

Hmm... you can't say it was entirely brought about by the Western invasion because there are other issues at work, including sectarianism.

What annoys me, though, is how countries like the USA and UK pick and choose when to step in on situations like these: they refrain from one situation and then go in on another.

Anyway, this is another disappointing example of absolutely mindless killing by people who don't really know why they're doing it. They've been educated with nonsense knowledge and have been provoked into violence.

Bush has it worst here, as a born again Christian he presumably believes his fate is pre-ordained and he may well burn for eternity. Blair, as a fundamentalist Catholic convert, can ask a priest to forgive him.

What a complete f**k up. Apparently these ISIS lunatics are coming over the border from the chaos that is Syria, and are too extreme for Al Qaeda to accept into its ranks. And I've heard people trying to rehabilitate the genocidal fascist Saddam 'at least he kept the terrorists out', presumably in the time he had left over after dropping chemical weapons on Kurds and torturing anybody who he thought may oppose him.

On the same day the Israeli's are rounding up Palestinians seemingly at random in reprisal for the kidnapping of the three boys whose parents thought it would be a good idea to go and 'settle' somewhere recognised by the rest of the world as Palestinian territory.

I despair. The temptation to say 'let them get on with it and wipe each other out' is huge, but the vast majority of people suffering in Iraq, Syria and Palestine are ordinary people and want nothing other than a quiet life.

All the major players here are bound together by strong, and undoubtedly sincere, religious belief and identification with populations defined by religious belief.

Religion...is it the source of all evil....(sorry Willy)....So much death, poverty, destruction , murder is caused by religion

I would like to think John Lennon had it right in the song Imagine

    Imagine there's no heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

I think people give too much credit to religions. They don't exist in any form aside from in people's thoughts. They're just ideas. Don't blame the religion, just blame the people directly. People act. How they act has consequences. People are individuals. Each person in one particular religion is different and probably has a different mentally and idea of the religion. It's just that people get together and act individually in tandem with each other. This is why education is key but the education in some places is obviously awful.

Nice sentiment but remember John Lennon was a wife beater and a bully to his kids. He could be just as hypocritical. Great song writer though.
