http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/?action=read&id=276551 Translation is: Atahotel Executive - Pope Waigo to Southampton The wing of Grosseto, Pope Waigo, may soon leave Italy. The player likes to Southampton, although there is also the interest of Bologna.
Pope Waigo, I thought it was Pope Benedict? The lad's career has obviously gone from strength to strength since leaving us, but it has taken rather an unexpected turn... The Pope is offside, The Pope is offside, The linesman is satan, The Pope is offside!
for the life of me i can remember it! remind me? not sure about this - would he cut it in the prem? (this is surely what we should base our signings on if that foreign scout article is to be believed)
Sorry to ruin the fun but I think saintscj has put the Italian text through an online translator, as Papa is the Italian for Pope. Still, it would be amazing to have him back, whether he is actually now the Pope or not .
Article claims that he likes Southampton, I like Saints aswell but can't see Nigel getting in contact with me any time soon. I can't see it happening to be honest as the team has moved on but I thought he was good when he was here don't get me wrong. What I mean by that is Nigel has come in and I am pretty certain he has no clue who Waigo is. I assume Pardew had the chance to sign him and didn't which I was slightly annoyed about but of course we don't know how much his asking price was. I liked the fact that he always had an air of unpredicatability about him as he was either class or crap. He also has blistering pace up front which is something we missed for a large part of last season, granted we have that through Forte but his finishing isn't as clinacle as Papa's. As for the offsides they were more often than not very close calls and mis judgement from the linesman on some occasions. Cutting a long story short I would welcome him back but it is unlikely.
I heard sir markus was a religious man but us signing a pope??? Half time prayers and full time blessings
Don't think he's good enough. Unpredictability was a mixed blessing. Nobody knew what he was going to do next, including himself! Sometimes led to goals, sometimes a shambles!
Papa Waigo was great, good attitude, bags of running and a good shot on him. I'd like to see him back but it is probably just speculation by the Italian press. He wasn't always offside - often enough to earn the song, but his goals got us to Wembley and I'd have him back for that reason alone.
This might not be what everybody remembers about him, but i'll always remember him as bloody hard working. He would continuously chase down lost causes, and sometimes this put defenders under so much pressure they would cock it up and we would score. Also loved the fact he could go from the sublime to the ridiculous in two touches. You don't get bored watching Papa Waigo. Sadly though probably have to be happy with memories (for instance him nicking the JPT and refusing to give it to anybody else for a good 15 minutes), cos I can't see him returning. Then again, it does seem that Cortese occasionally signs players (does anybody seriously believe Papa and Guly were Pardew signings?)...
I think Cortese was the driving force behind getting him the first place with his Italian connections. I would 100% take him back.
Not keen, great a couple of seasons ago and a great character but the Championship is a hard tough league - not sure if he would cut it to be honest Dark Lord
