Pirlo was given acres of space to operate in . I know you have a thing about Rooney but it's Hodgson who is to blame for that result last night . His team selection and they way he set them up was shocking .

He also failed to change things when it was blatantly obvious what was going wrong .

I agree . I thought they did well despite their midfield being a shambles .

He shoe horned rooney into his team. England always do that. They pick names rather than a team.

Baines is great in attack, in defence not so much. I thought Henderson was anonymous.

Baines was double teamed most of the time . Rooney was caught inside far too much keaving him exposed .

Before Eric jumps on the Rooney bashing bandwagon Hodgson switched Rooney with Welbeck early in the second half and Welbeck was just as bad .

It all stemmed from Henderson and Gerrard playing like extra centre hawfs . Why the **** was one of them not told to man mark Pirlo ?

Rooney wasn't the major problem . Two holding midfielders was the problem . That gave Pirlo and co all the space in the middle of the park . That in turn caused Englands wide players to come inside and leave their full backs exposed.

Rooney just stood out more cos he's a lazy bastard .

Pirlo is a class act . You would think England would know that . The space he was allowed to play in was unbelievable . At least a man marker would have inhabited a wee bit of that space .

Change the record - you know full well that the vast majority of us said we didn't think we'd do very well in this world cup. If you really want an example of overrating yourself then look at Scotland's preparation for Argentina 1978. We never have and never will plumb those depths of embarrassment.
