So now there is a firm bid on the table of £5m for McCormack from a CHAMPIONSHIP club, how will Cellino react? I would expect some negotiation before a fee is agreed, and £6m should do it. Now, which club is it? My guess? Norwich ... they really struggled to score goals last season, they have a fat parachute payment in tneir wallet and they can easily afford the fee and the wages needed to prise Ross away ... there may even be talk of Becchio being chucked into the mix if Cellino wants an instant replacement ... there is talk of Derby being interested but they are struggling for cash, so unless their board throws some instant cash into their bank account they won't be able to compete with Norwich. Let the transfer games begin! "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Why would Cellino sell our best player to a promotion rival? If he were to make it known to Derby or Norwich that a deal could be done, even to a promotion rival, I think it would take a tad more than £5m to prise Ross away.
Agree Boggers ... but all his actions so far have been around reducing costs, plus he lost the Sport Capital fight, so has to pay them £1.8m (half now) ... anything north of £6m will be very tough to refuse regardless, and it will help him to stabilise the ship financially ... with his stated intent that next season is all about survival in the Champioship, he may well feel Ross is a valuable asset to cash in now, and then next season build profitability and then have the funds for next summer to launch a serious attack in the transfer market ... other issue of course is if Ross feels promotion is more achieveable elsewhere then he will go ... tough time to be a Leeds fan "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
But we are not promotion rivals to anyone. Cellino has clearly stated that promotion for us is a three year plan. If thats the case, it won't matter who Ross is sold to once the price is right
I doubt its us that has bid for him. If he is to move to a fellow championship club it's only similar to what Rhodes done moving to Blackburn. I would expect this info has been leaked to get a bidding war started. Personally, I would be amazed if he left you guys for a fellow championship side. He will either be your player or a Premier league player come the end of the summer! Good luck next season
Fulham have made a bid for Ross McCormack according to @GraemeBailey other clubs are to bid over the weekend. #lufc
Yes, Fulham makes sense ... they won't want Berbatov back from Monaco, and they have a fat parachute as well ... as things stand we simply can't compete in the Championship transfer market, and with Morison returning Ross will go "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
We were not offered 6m before? Cellino would be daft to sell him Let's wait and see,and stop reading red top rags.
Spot on. For as long as Ross is with us, whether thats months or couple more seasons, every transfer window will be the same. He will be constantly linked with moves away. He is the only player we have that anyone wants or worth big money. In terms of quality, he is in a different league to the majority of the rest of our squad. If we still had snoddy or max, it would be the exact same with them. Tell you one thing though, when he eventually goes, regardless of the millions we will get, he will take some replacing. Consider this, Morisson was valued at 3m when we signed him and whats his real value?
Morning fellas. We may not go up this season, and Cellino has talked about a 3 year plan. But sell Ross for anything south of around £8m shows our intent for the medium term. As such, it would be difficult to attract the sort of players we need to get us back in the PL. Ross will attract plenty of interest, and every club has a price for their top players. But if we do sell Ross, let's at least see him better himself anf go to a PL club for proper money.
Morning Boggers. What may also enter the equation, we may get an offer of 5 million, money all up from from one club or 7 million staggered over 4 years from another. Given our financial state, in that scenario, the 5m may be more tempting. Who knows
Fair point Eire, but I thought Cellino was supposed to be minted, even more so now with the sale of Caligari
He may well be, but remember he said all along, Leeds will have to pay its own way, same as Cagliari did. And he's right. No reason why a club the size of Leeds and the fan base can't break even in the future when all Bates/GFH crap is cleared up
Excellent point Eire .. £5m in one go woulb be impossible to ignore ... confirmed its Fulham who have bid, expect at least two more to come in at £5m "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Agreed Eire. But the sooner Cellino gets us in the PL, the sooner he'll start to get a return on his financial input.
