Hmm, newspaper in Stoke reporting "they understand" Doug Loft has turned down Vales offer to re sign, and will sign for us today. http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Port-Vale-captain-Doug-Loft-set-sign-Gillingham/story-21211281-detail/story.html Just speculation? Or is it about to happen? Fingers crossed. Actually, also on the Vale Official Site http://www.port-vale.co.uk/news/article/20140610-loft-rejects-new-offer-1627903.aspx
Very true vinney. I didn't mean us to announce it b4 its done. But I'll be happy when they do announce it officially. Mind you, assuming it is announced as done, I expect it was actually nutted out and agreed a fair while ago (weeks maybe?).
Talyor has said that he should have all the business for the club tied up by 01/07/14, he is claiming to continue being active in the market. Now that we have four players and we can see that two of them can play in a variety of positions will we still need the 4 additional players? I can see a striker and an RB but I am struggling to decide what else I would like to see, perhaps a left winger to balance McGlashan...
I'm wondering if the striker could be Westcarr, as Portsmouth are looking at him, so surely we could compete with them, although supposedly Championship clubs are also interested. I think we need a creative midfielder, like Paul Smith was, but anyone else may have to be loans.
Surely if Loft plays at left back that would free up Martin to be a left winger?...at least he knows how to turn inside and has the strength to do so, which i feel Weston lacked.
Well that would certainly be an option, Martin didn't have the freedom to move forward as often this season just gone. Would Loft prove to be a bit more of a creative force on that side though? Or offer as much of a physical presence as Martin would?
Not sure the answer on your question. I always remember Martin being a pony when Barcham was in the side but when MA came in, we saw a different Martin and one i was impressed with, coming down the wing and cutting in - but we would get caught out at the back with weaker defenders. Now i think we can exploit Martin's restrained potential, certainly worth a try imo and Loft to cover or yes, visa versa.
Someone on gillsonline says that we are going to sign fabian brandy and sam gallagher on loan from Southampton. The sam gallagher story has been kicking around for a few weeks, supposedly because taylor is friends with someone at Southampton
I can't see us signing someone like Gallagher unless there was a serious void that needed filling, like Cody going. Brandy coming back however, could be interesting.
I keep seeing/hearing rumours (just that) of a premiership youngster on loan for a year. Probably Ryan Innis or could that be Sam Gallacher? I have my doubts. From what I hear Gallacher should be way above our level for a loan out.
Theres now a rumour that Taylor has said its a local lad as striker and there is speculation that it could be Benik Afobe from Arsenal, who lives in Ashford Looks good if true, albeit a bit injury prone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benik_Afobe
Southampton fans haven't heard anything about us getting Gallagher on loan and apparently it's not really their policy to loan their youngsters out. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/266420-Sam-Gallagher
