Whilst accepting the general premise that you don't get loyalty from foreign players, there are notable exceptions.

Dirk gives his heart and soul every time he pulls 'The Shirt' on.
It's too early to say regarding Suarez, but he looks like he's having the best time of his life playing for us.
Alonso is a self-confessed Liverpool fanatic and will bring his son up as one.
And well, Luis Garcia, he drinks sangria and appeared at Carra's testimonial for charity.

LFC breeds more loyalty than pretty much any other football team.

<steam>Oh People, my stupid, stupid people... Why do you think they teach history at school? To bore you silly? No, we learn from history. If we know the mistakes of the past, we don't make them again. So why on earth do you keep talking about bringing back old strikers?

How may people have I had to bitch slap because the were so god damn stupid as to even think about and type the name Ow*n?? And now we have more stupid people talking about Torres??? People you embarrass yourselves and shame me, this city and our club. Learn from history people! Rush and Fowler coming back were not good ideas. Why would we do it again? It is a marker for mental illness and madness to repeat the same function and to expect a different outcome. Don't make me send the men in white coats around, to put on the self hugging jacket!!!

Strikers are past it at 25, especially if they have been injured. You need 17 year old kids up front, as they are so young, that they don't realise that they shouldn't run through defenses and score for fun. Torres is now too scared of getting injured again, that he won't go flat out anymore. We got the very best out of him, he is now spent and a dried up husk, rejoice at the silly money Chavski gave us for him.

I'd agree with everybody regarding Alonso. Top-quality player and would definitely have him back. I wouldn't want Torres back though. I think he has lost some of this pace and he had a lot of injures during the end of his Liverpool career.

Ian Rush scored a truck load of goals in his second period here, so I'm not having that. Fowler wasn't bad here and scored some decent goals and proved useful.

Would you not have brought Dalglish back as manager either?

I'd take the Big Finn back as a coach every day of the week. Hell, that'd be the best addition since Steve Clark. (not that that was long ago :p)

Not so sure about Murphy, I think Spearing is a better player than him now.

    Agreed.
I didn't mean to suggest that none of them are capable of loyalty- I did say to begin with there's still a lot about. I just mean you can hardly blame many foreigners who have no emotional ties to the club if they just see it as work.
Torres, I thought, had a better relationship with the fans and club.
    I was wrong.

Take it back two years and he'd be the most popular person in this thread.

I'd love RVP and Nasri to come to Spurs. I'd give them Bentley and Defoe in return, which I think would be a fair swap <ok>

First few honeymoon months of Kewell when he was scoring and looking like the player we knew he was, until well we were all truely gutted at his health problems and promise of " Kewell being back is like a new signing." =(

If it has to be present day players, the only one I would want would be Alonso

If I could bring back players (at their best) that i have seen then:

Billy Liddell - ball control, power and pace (for his time) plus a fierce shot

Peter Thompson - pace and dribbling skills, the best winger we have has since WW2. Problem with Peter was he couldn't take his nose off the ball!

Billy Stevenson - always made time and space for himself in midfield and such a class way of kicking the ball

Brucie - he was always good for a laugh and the spectacular

    Rushie - nuff said

God - the most complete goalscoring machine.

Macca - just loved the way he played.

    Sami Hyypia,
    Jon Arne Riise,
    Javier Mascherano,
    Mohamed Sissoko,
    Xabi Alonso,
    Luis Garcia,
    Fernando Torres,
    Patrik Berger.
These are players from my lifetime. Obviously we have previous historic legends.

Oh and I would have Abel Xavier back, just coz he looked funny.
