The Mail can reveal plans by Sainsbury's to open a large store in Bransholme. The supermarket would be opposite Kingswood Academy in Wawne Road, a location ward councillors believe is ideal for the 35,000 people who live on the estate. Subject to plans being approved at a meeting at the Guildhall on Monday, the store could boast a special discount section. Bransholme East councillor Peter Clark believes the development could provide job opportunities for hundreds of unemployed people living on the estate. He said: "If this project is given the go ahead it will absolutely brilliant for everyone. "Including the construction of the building and then part-time and full-time jobs, hundreds of jobs could well be created. "There are so many hardworking people across Bransholme who are desperate to get into work. "They want to supply their families with an income and a better life and this could be the start of a very bright future. "There are lots of people on the estate who don't drive and it is important there are opportunities for them to both work and shop locally. "We have been waiting for this for years and it is very exciting. We just want it to all go ahead now." While the exact plans remain unclear at this stage, it is understood a car park will be constructed. It is also hoped a petrol station is built alongside the store. Councillor Clark said: "A petrol station would be very helpful for everyone on the estate, because at the moment people have to drive into the city or to Kingswood to fill up. "Opportunities for further development on top of Sainsbury's would increase and Bransholme will be unrecognisable from a few years ago. "This will serve as a huge boost to the estate and its economy." With planning permission already in place, it is all down to how talks pan out at the Guildhall on Monday. It is hoped the store would attract residents from Kingswood, too. Council leader, Cllr Steve Brady, said: "The councillors in Bransholme work so very hard and if it gets the go ahead, they will deserve it for all their efforts. "Of course, we are still awaiting a decision, so there is no guarantee. "But we welcome any development that creates jobs for the people of Hull â it is very important." Morrisons was the first of the "big four" supermarkets to have a presence on the estate. It opened its store in Goodhart Road, Bransholme, in 2011 and employs about 50 people. Attracting another of the "big four" has been the aim of Bransholme councillors Peter Clark, Anita Harrison, Phil Webster and Helene O'Mullane for several years. Bransholme resident Kath Clark said the estate will be celebrating if the deal is confirmed. She said: "I've never been inside a Sainsbury's store before. I don't know what one looks like on the inside. "It would be fantastic for everyone. We are tired of having to drive out of Bransholme to do our shopping. "If this goes ahead the councillors deserve great credit for their hard work." Never been to a Sainsburys!! I empathise with Kath's innocent, naive excitement. When I was a kid we used to go and stay with me Ma's rich friends darn sarf. The highlight of every trip was a visit to a brand new, revolution in shopping, self-service (unbelievable), branch of Sainsbury's. We were in awe. It was like an Aladdin's cave of excessive foody based consumerism. They sold individual fruit pies. Eight year old me was so impressed. I struggled with the concept of an individual pie. I mean I'd had a pie before, but not one to myself. I couldn't get my head around it. A pie. Just for me. It was all mine. My pie. An individual fruit pie. I had two. So I'm with Kath on this one. You go girl. Froth up ya knickers at the thought of a trip to Sainsbury's. Your life will change forever. Although thinking about it, I was an 8 year old in the 1960s. She's an adult in 2014. Gawd, she must have led a sheltered life.
I think her touch of honest admittance really does show how the haves and have nots are split by money, ability and mobility. I doubt her life has been particularly sheltered, more likely just a tad more isolated for various reasons. This does sound like an excellent development for the area; what is impressive is the speed of build from breaking ground to opening the doors.

I didn't realise that Kingswood or Bransholme wasn't in the city anymore! The council are trying to get the surrounding villages to sign up and become part of Hull, yet it appears they're unsure of their own boundaries.
To be fair, it is just over a mile from there to the nearest existing Sainsbury's in the area and nearly half a mile to the next garage. Saying that, it's far better served than the satellite estates people try to call villages and for some odd reason aspire to.
Sutton Park and Bransholme dont mix. We dont let the ****ers in our Saino its too posh for em, they come on our estate and you can guarantee all the washing lines'l get raided
I don't quite get how hard working people can be unemployed. Either they're working, or they aint surely? Hailing from Orchard Park, I never had much time for the other lot from the rough side of town, but I think that's a sad reflection on society, or communities or something when someone's never been in a Sainsbo's before, and it gets them excited. Imagine what a Waitrose would do. Still, good news for the area, as much as the big supermarkets are moaned about, it will create an enormous amount of jobs, and the people working there will be able to afford to buy food and stuff there, thereby raising their own standards of living, so, yeah, good thing this.
Some cracking bits and cracking people on both to be fair. Doesn't deserve the bad press. There's nowhere in Hull that's a no-go area, even after dark. Not too many places similar size can say that.
I have to laugh when they boast about creating extra jobs when a supermarket opens, do they not realise that unless people actually spend more on food then any jobs here are just taken from the stores that people used to shop at before this one opened!
