http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...isten-to-liverpool-transfer-offer-says-agent? Is there any point getting excited for this or is it total bullshit ?
It's not reliable at all, but they seem to have got quotes - which papers don't seem to "make up," just drag out of context. These looks legit though.
Got a feeling if Barca come in for him we'll be ****ed. We so badly need this kind of player... I say pay big money to ensure he joins
His dad said they would listen to offers after the Euros, nothing about Liverpool though, that's just been made up.
Now come on, it's Mad Citeh's job to ruin Football. But, you are right, that is what it takes when you don't have Champions League Football and genuine Title Ambition to offer. Blow the other more successful(currently)Clubs out of the water on a Fee, and Wages, and then you might, night just get the Mercenary to come and join your 'project'. That is the harsh reality of where LFC are right now.
I seem to remember Mr Schofield, that you- in a previous thread- were trying to present yourself as merely a detached and balanced observer of Lfc ( citing all of your past experience etc.). Well, I think you may have blown your cover away with this obvious dig at our standing and ambition and I, for one, will treat all of your subsequent remarks as the wind-ups they obviously are. Thanks for that.
LFC don't have a monopoly on those things, if that was all it took, my lot would be on phone to Messi, and we'd get him.
Sainanton. That is my take on how LFC's standing in the game is as of today. I know that you are one of the greatest football clubs in history, and of course that counts when a Player is considering a move, but you need to be honest with yourselves too. The modern day Player sees 'Prestige' way down on the list of priorities, and even then LFC's record is, in internationally recognised terms, where domestic cups are irrelevant, fairly humdrum. The one Champions League win, and no Premier League Titles over a generation is the stuff of Dortmund, not Madrid. Seriously, not WUMming, just pointing out reality. Have a little go at this, and tell me where you would put these 'attractions' in level of desirability/importance to the World's most sought after Players; Club's Historical Achievements Champions League Group Stage Qualified Domestic League Club Is In Get-Out/Buy-Out Clauses Highest Wages Possible Manager's Standing/Reputation I have put them in alphabetical order, you rank them in whatever order you believe the modern Player and all of his advisers see as priority. And then ask yourself, what does Liverpool offer TODAY As far as their current Clubs are concerned, that one is easy, whoever will pay them the most money.
Atleast big Dave backs up his opinions with cash, I bet most of you wouldn't back the predictions you make on here with hard earned cash.
Can anyone else here that humming noise, its sounds a bit like WUMWUMWUMWUM. just me? Actually Real have only won the CL once in the last decade the same as LFC and the league only 3 times which is pretty poor considering there is more competition in the SPL. Its only a matter of time before LFC win the Prem and the long wait will make the victory so much sweeter. I dont think its all about having the best players,we proved that in 2005, Man U have also shown in recent years that having a solid stable team is much more important and i think we are working towards that. The future bright for LFC YNWA.
You're just not dealing with reality timmy. Since Liverpool last won the League Title, 21 years ago, as I said, a generation ago, Real Madrid have won La Liga SEVEN Times and the Champions League on THREE occasions. They pay the highest Transfer Fees, the Highest Wages, have the World's most sought after Manager, are in the Champions League, Play in one of the top 2/3 Leagues in the world and have a Trophy Cabinet fit to burst. That is why they will attract (virtually) any Player in the Wolrd And Liverpool won't. And it isn't 'only a matter of time before Liverpool win the League again', it will take a lot more than that.
Barca's accounts are troubling. Ours are not. These facts affect how far both clubs will go in the transfer market. Don't expect Barca to get silly. They're already tempering their Fabregas bid and he's the player they want above all others. Okay, £31m first offer is no tube of Smarties but it suggests they'll go to maybe £35m tops. Who else spent £35m on a player? Oh yeah, Liverpool. Top players have intimated their willingness to come to Anfield. Our ability to attract is still there. There may be a player here or there who fancies Champions League next season above all else. So we don't get them. Boo freaking hoo. That would be a problem if we were doing a Redknapp and being linked with every pensioner on a stairlift with one gentle season left in them. But we're not. We're buying for the long term and talking to players who are able to think long-term, unlike so many observers of the game. Guardiola himself has spoken of our long-term prospects in terms of the academy: “Liverpool Academy is the only one who can compete at La Masia. If they can manage those lads, then maybe 20 star players can arrive from that academy.” He should know. Both are psychic predictions. You seem unable to distinguish. How long is a "matter of time" and how long is "a lot more than that"?
That is exactly why we are the process of rebuilding dumbass. The idea of joining a club that is quite obviously on the way up from a difficult period is actually a great incentive to sign. New owners, new manager, new coaches, history of the club, future goals, money, etc etc etc etc are good enough reasons for the best youngsters around to want to join.
David It's so long since I was at school I've forgotten how to do homework so I'll have to decline your kind invitation. I would prefer to express my opinion in my own words. No-one knows more than Liverpool supporters the size of the task facing us to be able to compete at the top. We don't need it spelling out to us by people who do not have the best interests of our club at heart. Even in this sad mercenary world, I believe there must be some quality players who would rather buy into and be part of a rebuilding process of a great club and achieve something, as opposed to warming the bench of an established successful team in order to garner trophies they have contributed little or nothing to winning ( sorry Michael- nothing personal, just the obvious example ). Realistic fans don't come out with the "next year........" business. There is the occasional sabre-rattling from some less mature or over enthusiastic fans, but more often than not it's a creative interpretation by opposing fans to some expression of hope due to our recent improvement. Your inverted commas around the word project and terms such as "harsh reality" betrayed the fact that you were just having a go. The task is obvious to us all- we are looking forward to the challenge. Would you expect anything less?
The latter part of this debate was sparked by; Originally Posted by Skylarker Got a feeling if Barca come in for him we'll be ****ed. We so badly need this kind of player... I say pay big money to ensure he joins l Barca being more attractive than LFC right now needs no further exploration. But the second line does, for it (perhaps unwittingly) describes perfectly LFC's only possible route to closing the gap with the(currently) stronger Clubs in the Premier League. If your Youth programme delivers, I promise you I will be the first to applaud you. But that will take a long time, and the dynamic of Football right across Europe is blatantly obvious, Money Talks, and the distance between the haves and the have nots is growing exponentially. Literally, Mind the Gap! Fat Chequebook+Big Wages=Champions League Champions League=More Money More Money=Fatter Chequebook+Even Bigger Wages On so the cycle repeats. You should know, you were on that gravy train for a decade. And when you aren't on that Train, boy are the Tickets expensive.
Well your interpretation is wrong. Mata being Spanish would probably give Barca the edge in signing him. You sir are a fool.
Ok, if i was to use this argument then a generation ago by your reasoning I would have been right in saying that Man U would have no chance of winning a title or atracting any big names. This just show's how small minded you are being, nobody on here is saying that LFC will win the title next year or that we will atract all of the worlds best players. We are rebuilding a young and hungry team some of whom will be able to challenge for the PL "in time" but we don't believe that one signing do that or that we are owed it. I would definately rather players who have something to prove and want to play for LFC than most of the journeymen at Real which is ultimately the reason for there lacluster showing of the past 5 years. I don't know which club you support (i'm guessing probably man city) but if their just buying the most well known players for stupid money, who just want to play for the wage packet you will have a lot less success than you think.
