My mammy has diabetes. Not the worst kind, the other one. Thing is, at 78, one of the few pleasures she has in life is a cake with her cuppa tea, and her doctor has told her to cut it out because her diabetes is getting worse. I feel terrible for the poor auld soul. Any suggestions for alternatives? As I understand it diabetic chocolate is a non-starter cause it's ****.
She already uses sweetners in her tea, but I don't know where to get decent quality cakes that she can have.
Does she have sugar in her tea? Cakes are a no-no unless she wants to lose some toes, possibly a foot. The only ways to lower blood sugar are losing weight, exercise, taking more insulin/metformin or cutting out sugar.
She uses sweetners in her tea. It's a damn shame she canny enjoy a cake at her time of life. I feel terrible for her.
Go to a health food shop and they'll advise you on a alternative or failing that try this http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1940674/sugarfree-lemon-drizzle-cake-
What can I say? You get diabetes you just have to do live with it. Swap a slice of cake for a couple of squares of chocolate. She'll get used to it over time.
My father smokes 30 a day and says much the same thing. Who wants to live forever? Who dares to love forever? When love must die.
