Well they played a huge part of the season with a poor strikeforce and only let themselves down in failing to grind down the poorer teams. Against their fellow rivals in the top four they played P6 W5 D1 PTS 16, you would think with Costa and Fabregas they will improve further. They have seemingly addressed their weaknesses already and Arsenal AT THIS STAGE, are actually weaker than the season end!!

    I dont believe so.

We've only made 1 signing over £20 Million in Wengers entire tenure. (despite being one of the more profitable clubs)

I doubt we will see another one - regardless of how much money we have to spend.

You don't believe what ? That we didn't need him or that we'll spend more than £20m on a player ?

You said 'If we needed him we would have signed him'.

But I don't believe that's the case.. I believe we didn't sign him because Wenger doesn't like to spend that kind of money. There has been countless occasions where we have been short in positions but we have not strengthened. A striker this January for example could have kept us in the title race.

Or how about our striker situation in 2010-11? - we ended up playing Arshavin as a centre forward and could have brought in reinforcements in January.

Anyway there are countless examples of this over the pass 10-15 years

Wenger has an obvious dislike for the big money transfers of the modern game. He's not even tried to hid this fact.. I can find countless quotes to back that assertion up.

“It won’t change, It doesn’t mean we will not spend money. I am always painted like a guy who refuses to spend money, like a greedy guy. But I just think I act like a responsible manager”

“We want to be the best. But the best is not only about buying players. We need to continue with what has made our strength until now.
I don’t say that money doesn’t play a part in it, but it’s not only about that. We have to continue to believe that it’s not only about that. I won't change"

I could see a £20 million bid for Balotelli on the cards but anything more ambitious that that just isn't going to happen.

I've been reading some Tweets by Jeremy Wilson of the Telegraph. His take on things is Wenger's priorities are a goalkeeper,RB,forward and defensive midfielder.Apparently Wenger chose not to exercise the Fabregasd buy back clause as he would rather spend the money on players in positions we need.

Aurier would be a good start and I think might well end up being a bargain

Giroud was quoted in an interview as saying we'll definitely be buying a new forward

The Ozil deal kind of puts that argument to bed though.

If we had needed a creative mid this summer, then I'm pretty sure we would have bought Fabregas back.

Not really. Thats the only big transfer in 18 years at Arsenal. More like the exception than the rule.

Clearly Wenger has realised that next season the great Abou Diaby will be "like a new signing" so no midfield reinforcements are needed.
Thank goodness Arsenal have competent medical staff and training methods so they don't need the depth that other teams do.

Exactly, I mean, its not like they have a problem with injuries, wherein all the Arsenal players are made of glass. <ok>

Better for us to stop following the rumours, especially for us Arsenal fans. Trust me, this will be dragged on until the end as per usual.

You're right... Wenger always buys exactly the players that he needs. Transfer dealings are second to none.

Making ONE big money signing in almost 20 years does not now make it the standard. it makes it an exception.

If we end up signing the likes of Mandzukic and Lars Bender then we can claim the Club is ready to challenge.

It just seems unlikely though (based on the Boss's past actions) - Unfortuntaely I think Remy/Grenier/Schneiderlin are more likely.

I understand we may not have needed him but I still think he'd have strengthened us. If we're not signing him so we can focus on the positions we really need then that's one thing but I lack faith in Arsenal in the transfer market. Özil is the exception to the rule in recent years. The latest I saw on our transfer targets from David Ornstein (who's usually quite reliable) said we'd confirmed our interest in buying a RB, back up keeper and a forward. That's only one addition to a threadbare squad so I'm hoping it's not true.

Lastly, I can take Cesc going almost anywhere but Chelsea. I think they're just a vile club and thought he shared my sentiments. The idea of seeing him hugging the likes of Terry or Maureen after a goal makes me sick up a bit in my mouth. I'm incredibly bitter about this so there's no need to point that out.

*my self imposed exile didn't last long..

    Applause.
Some of your peers think its not manly or not cool to say what they really think and hide behind macho bull **** and back tracking.
You are one of the only posters who has actually come out and said, "This has upset me and I am pissed". This makes you the bigger man imo.
And I do mean that seriously, not in a patronising sort of way.

Fret not, I'm friends with far too many Chelsea fans and they're p*ss taking and patronising enough for everyone. Even non-Chelsea fans are ganging up on me <wah>
