The Dyatlov Pass Incident/Devils Pass Review:

Okay first of all the background of this movie is a true story, there is a real incident where 9 Russian hikers died in a mysterious way in the northern ural mountains in Russia in 1959, till today its not clear about what exactly happened to them, some of the members had severe skull injuries with no exterior damage, and a female members tongue was missing, that’s all true. The incident is knows as Dyatlov incident coz the leader of the Russian group was a guy named Igor Dyatlov. The mountain is called Dead Mountain.

Story:- So the movie starts with 5 American students who are preparing to go and make a documentary movie in the same place where this unsolved incident took place so they go to Russia, the team consists of Holly, Jensen, JP, Andy and Denise. First they reach a small town through train its covered with snow. They try to talk to the 10th member of team who is in a mental hospital but are not allowed, the 10th member of the team could not go coz he was ill the day the original Russian team left, and has gone crazy after hearing about the incident, as the hospital staff was stopping the from entering the hospital saying that he person they are looking for is dead, they see the person they are looking for on the second floor window trying to flash a message to them written in Russian, then they go to a local bar where the Original Russian team visited the night before they started their journey, the US team drinks up and meets a guy named Sergie, he offers them to give them a ride to the last town before the mountain, he also tells them that his aunt was among the first people to visit the mountain with the rescue team, the US groups interviews her and she says that there were 11 bodies in there not 9 and two of the bodies were in really bad shape and beside them there was a small machine, the group start climbing the mountain and when they set up camps the first night they find 2 sets of big bare foot marks around their tents, they are bigger than normal human foot prints, the team goes up higher in the mountain and sets camp in the exact same spot where the Russian group camped the night they all got killed, holly and Jensen were looking for traces of radiation when they found a metal door locked from outside hidden in the show, holly and Jensen decided no to tell the rest about this and come back here win the morning, when they all go to sleep they hear explosions higher in the mountain which starts an avalanche, they team runs for their life but Denise gets trapped in the avalanche and dies, Andy is also serious injured, they pull him out and fires some flairs to call for help, then they see two people walking towards them, Andy tells the others that there is no way people could get to them in that short time, and that these people were following them all this time, holly and Jensen tell them about the door they found and Andy tells them to leave him behind and go to the door, and get help. As they are going towards the door they see the two unknown guys shot and kill Andy, the team rushes to open the door and get inside just as they were getting inside JP gets shot too, they all get inside that and find that it’s a old Russian experimental lab, they find proofs of lot of weird kind of experiments that used to take place there, just as holly and Jensen investigates the base Jp is attacked by two mutants and gets killed, holly and Jensen find out that there were some teleportation related experiments being done there, the mutants attack them too but they manage to get into a part where they see a cave with a teleported device, they guess that it will take them where ever they want and they decide to go outside the door in the mountain, when they go inside the teleported they go back in time, their bodies are shown lying down face first and the aunt of Sergie comes there but at that time the Russian army guys come around too and take the bodies to the base inside the door again, then they hang the bodies with chains, this is when their bodies are shown to us and they have become the same mutants that attack them, they both wake up from their coma the screen blacks out.


Understanding this Movie:-

Sergie’s Aunt found two extra bodies which were not human well they were the mutant bodies of holly and Jensen and the machine was their camera,

Foot Prints on the snow around the camp at first night, well they were the mutants they can teleport, so they came out of the base but since they are insane they don’t really walked off the mountains and went back in the base, (Does not really fits actually)

As holly and Jensen enter the teleporter their bodies become mutated and they gain the ability to teleport but they also become insane, later on they will attack themselves in future when they will enter the base in 2012 the year the movie projects as current time.

Who killed the original Russian team well according to the movie they too had discovered the door and went in they found the other mutants created by the experiments there and those mutants killed the team, (does not really fits actually, the details don’t match)

The Avalanche that was done by the military both times in 59 and 2012 coz they wanted people to stay off that place, as they found a cave with a alien teleporter device and build a base around it, and started to keep people off that place, (Does fit, natural reason of death, hypothermia and avalanche)

In the movie its shown that they find a tongue in a weather station, that tongue belonged to a Russian hunter or soldier not clear whos body was inside the base, it was to recreate the original Russian incident where a female member of the team was found with no tongue, the logic is that mutants have a vocal cord but not a tongue so they rip off the tongues as if they could use it as their own but when that don’t work they just leave it behind (Does not really Fits actually)

The movie also shows that a team of hacker somehow got the video that was taped by the team and released it on internet, (Pure Bullshit, if that would happen that the world would know about the Teleporter and the secret Russian Base coz that was taped, in the beginning of the movie the news reports 5 USA students are missing, if the hackers would have the tape they would know what happened to them)

Why did Sergie’s Aunt did not recognize holly and Jensen in 2012 when she saw their bodies back in 59 coz they were not human at that time their bodies were mutated and they could not be recognized. Also she does not recognize the camera that she saw from 59 which the team was carrying with them and which holly and Jensen took with them through the teleporter well maybe she did not really had a good look at it (benefit of doubt, shock of seeing mutant bodies and 50 years time so faded memory and all)

The experiment was abandoned by the Russian army when they found out that the machine they found on those dead bodies(Mutant) was actually a video camera, they figured it out that what they found back in 59 was something from 2012, or after that, so they stopped as they knew it was dangerous, playing with time and teleportation,
How they Went Missing, Denise’s Body is under tons of ice after the avalanche, Andy’s body was hidden by the army after they shot him, JP’s Body is still inside the base so it was not discovered, Holly and Jensen’s enter the teleporter and went back in time as mutants so their bodies could not be found either.


Well this is a Blair witch type of movie where you will see what the team has recorded in their cameras, although the background of the movie is a true story the movie is totally fiction, the direction of this movie is very normal not really thrilling as they should be, the end part where they enter the Russian experimental lab is dark and you wont be able to see much, the teleporting mutants don’t really leave a mark, the movie lacks the suspense elements and more thrilling things could have been present but they are not, the movie feels like a non serious project,
This is not really a worthy movie to watch, I will give it 1.3/10.
