we can't allow the same situation to happen with young Connor Wickham!!!This lad is vital to our club's future, and we must tie the lad down with a long-term contract!!

We need to tie him down this summer. Make sure he knows he is first choice and give him a 4 year deal

Sign or spend 12 months in the reserves with no loan and no first team football. We spent 8m on him and we can't afford to let him go for free or mess us around. This is business and we need to start running the club like a proper company.

But if we did sell him now we would get very little from the deal, nothing like what we have shelled out, once again we are chasing the game, we are in a no win situation and agents are only too aware of this and I am fearing the Colback fiasco is about to repeat itself. And to be honest there is not a lot the club can do about it as far as I can see. Surely all we can do is get the most out of Connor this season and If he has a blinder he will do us and himself no harm.

He's under 24 so we would do far better than with ginger knackers but after this latest fiasco we need to get Wickham on another 3 year deal asap.

Can I add, let's stop discussing carrot heed now please? He's gone and we are neither better or worse off. Once we recruit a new midfielder we will be better off and young Ba can be given his chance. I can't understand all the fuss over a very average footballer who split the Sunderland fans anyway? I would have been happy for him to stay but if we replace him with a midfielder who can pass forwards, look like getting 6 or 7 goals a season and is a bit quicker than a corporation bus then we just move forward from the malaise we have been stuck in for 3 years which ginger Judas played a massive part in.

We haven't just lost Lionel Messi, we have only lost an average ginger craa who didn't want to be here.

PS - can all the fans who have given me grief over the years regarding my sentiments about recruiting mags at the club now at least concede that ginger knackers should be the last one ever? 12 years we nurtured, supported and invested in this ****er and he still **** on the club in the end. Like the fat twat Bruce and the spotty **** Clark before him, this club does not need and should never entertain employing a dirty unwashed bastard at SAFC ever again. Once a b&w bastard, always a b&w bastard.

    Agreed?

Agreed we move on from Colback...I am tbh more cross he left for nothing, although going to the mags just rubs salt into the wound.

Also agreed we need replacements, with Bardsley going we need a LB and cover for a left back as well as a left footed midfielder. If we can get Alonso back and anew left midfielder who can sub as LB then the squad will be covered.

Also I cannot remember if it is on this thread or not we need to nail Wickham down with a new contract, so when manure or the bindippers come calling we can get in excess of £30m for him

I know it's the Mirror but if there is any truth in it, it demonstrates that Colback's desire to play for his childhood team nearly came second to Ashley's desire for profit and was fulfilled by West Hams refusal to become involved in a shady deal.

It appears that Newcastle tried to sell Colback to West Ham before he had signed for them.

Sorry, just spotted the thread below (beat me by a minute)

Very articulate outburst Cest, but valid nevertheless. We need to stay clear of players of Colbacks ilk, nee loyalty in football these days.

True but it's better than nowt. We need to stamp down on the way we handle contracts. Let him walk and we've learnt nothing and nothing has changed.

Do you not think we kissed good by to most of that fee anyway in the way MoN and Bruce managed him, if he signs a new contract then we have a chance of rebuilding that fee, but if he doesn't sign and we let him run his last year down, then we may as well drop a big banner saying 'push over' outside the stadium.

There's plenty the club can do, if he doesn't sign this summer then sell him. If he won't resign drop him to the reserves and give no game time at any level. Plenty the club can do. They can get tough. They can make a stand.

Does the under 24 rule stand when he's already made a big move. I was under the impression the under 24 rules only count in the first pro contract. He's on his second.

So we don't recruit kids who support Newcastle, well let Newcastle have them so they have half the areas local talent without even giving them a fight? That's daft Cest. We should have sold Jack when we had the chance, the clubs fault and the clubs fault alone. Who Jack supports is completely irrelevant as far as I can see, he could have signed for Westbrom and we'd still have the same problem.

The club should employ me to deal with contracts. Its simple, as soon as a player 18 months left they re-sign or get sold. The other option is they spend 18 month in the res's with no football.

Its blindingly obvious players and agents want to run their contracts down because if they go on a free the agent gets a massive fee and the player gets a massive signing on fee. Their is no loyalty shown at all anymore.

The only way to combat that is take away their show window, then no one will be interested in signing them or paying them high wages.

Disagree mate. He orchestrated this move to the scum himself. I don't know exactly what the club offered but I'll take their very public statement this week that they matched ALL his demands all along the line, only to be punched in the goolies this week. Clark did the same thing by basically sticking two fingers up at all of us and so did Chopra.

I will never give my support to another b&w born player ever again who come here and will proactively aggressively boo the f**king bastards who do. Its your choice to do otherwise but I've had my fill of the f**kers.

Strange, I thought Clark was regarded as one of your better performers when he was there? Probably didn't have much option to put "that" t shirt on.

This maybe Cest but it doesn't detract from the fact it's us who made this possible. Mistake 1, giving him a first Pro contract which expired after his 24th birthday, mistake 2, we let him walk into his final year without signing a new contract. We should have sold him last season.

You were cock on earlier in the season when you said let him rot in the reserves, I objected and I hold my hands up. You were right on the money. But I don't see any sense in letting over half the regions talent walk straight to our rivals. Not when it shouldn't be a problem if the club deals with the contracts correctly. Issue the contracts correctly then If a player want's to walk to Newcastle or anybody for that mater, they have to pay.

This issue has very little to do with NUFC, he could have done this and gone to any club which proves it's nowt to do with rivalry, it's just us not looking after our own investments yet again.
