If the dodery old twat of a manager has the balls to play the youngsters England may do alright. If he sticks with the players who have failed and failed and failed before it will be an early exit yet again. But I have no doubt he will pick the old guard until it is to late for them.
And by the way, at least we wont have to listen to those VuvuFuckingzelas, they totaly spoilt the last world cup.
Suppose if you are not the best it is arrogance and if you are the best it is still pompous (although being better may be a natural reaction to mud slinging until we forget who started it). Think what you describe is 2 personality types, both of which are common to both England and Wales, although I do not think the England centric media help matters. In the world cup I agree it is inevitable and understandable that the home team(s) represented (if any) will get much of the coverage - it would just be nice to think that if we had also qualified we would get equal coverage on national TV channels.
If wales had qualified and England didn't then they would still be talking about England and why they never qualified and giving us a little bit more discussion than we get now....
Why do we deserve discussion? Our campaign was awful, our manager worse and our players apathetic despite having two world class players in Ramsey and Bale. We do get our knickers in a twist over "England bigging themselves up" here in Wales but I think it's perfectly understandable. Despite everyone's opinion (including mine) that they won't get as far as the semis, I see that Pele no less seems to think they will. Now if he said that about Wales we'd be pretty excited too wouldn't we? They are there on merit and we are not. Get over it.
Sorry but I thought England being at the World Cup was a sporting topic. My mistake. Look, it's the closed season domestically and the national team is at the biggest tournament in the world. What do you expect? Table tennis in South Korea?
If it were purely English media I am not sure even then that would true, but if so it would be fair enough as they are largely catering to their target audience. It can be argued that some of the Rugby adverts in Wales went much further e.g. fe fi fo fum. National media I think are much more aware these days so I doubt it would be as you describe, if we qualified and England did not (although there likely would be some element of discussing the problems behind England's failure to qualify - given they normally do). Like with the "Big" PL clubs getting more attention, they would likely want to retain an element of personal interest for their widest demographic. Hopefully some comment has also been made in this coverage about the non qualifying home nations? note: sorry as you will realise I am widening the topic a bit by referring to the media generally
This is true. I've lost count of the number of times we hear about "earthshaking news" on Wales Today to do with domestic rugby - as if it's a big story. Nobody watches it!
Wales to day is a regional programme, Talk ****e is a national programme and for the whole of the UK not just england..
The majority of fans watch the premiership or local club rugby. Plus regional rugby is always shown live. More people watch rugby than football in Wales
I was listening yesterday on the way home from work, they said England didn't have a chance in hell and berated a caller as a fool for thinking they had a chance to reach just the Semi Finals. I have heard them talking about England but I haven't heard any of the radio hosts saying they have a even a little chance of winning the competition.
Are you sure about that? The South is Wales' population hub and football is king here, Rugby appears to be something the hard line anti-England brigade clasp because it isn't the main sport in England.
Rugby support at domestic level is dying a very quick death in a Wales. Every time I go down to watch the Ospreys I think I'd get a better atmosphere in a cemetery. Yet I can never get a ticket to watch Wales, unless they're £80, which I refuse to pay. I have a number of friends who only think rugby gets played during November and 6Nations and they're the sods that get the tickets
Agree, I know people like me that do that I'll admit I try to get Six Nations tickets but for me it is a sporting day out, nothing to do with being a fan of rugby. Most people who go there are probably the same as well, you'll find a bigger crowd watching a local game of football on the park flats outside the Liberty in Landore than you would at a local rugby match. I was quite suprised in fact to see how many people they get to watch their games as the Swans are playing just 500 meters or so away.
Get real Dai - it's a media programme that is chasing ratings; biggest population in the UK - England! How many listeners would they have in the build up to a world cup in which England are playing if they didn't focus on England? The media give their majority customers what they want - just look at the Cardiff Broadcasting Company when there is a 6 Nations on the horizon! It's simple economics!
word cup i will agree but what about the other 3 years 360 days that they still talk about England and their **** team
