Yeah, paper talk. If he goes, he goes. Then we get someone new in. Basically it should be believed when it happens, no point panicking over tomorrow's chip wrapper!

It's just Mirror talk. They only ever get the price of their rag and the date correct.

So if it is not Ronald Koeman for Southampton manager, they will have to look somewhere else. Why wouldn't they take a good look at Stevebruce. Money talks in football. The owners of Southampton are mega wealthy. I have no doubt they could put the sort of package together that may appeal to any potential manager.

Steve Bruce would be wise to stay put for at least the rest of the year. It isn't going to be easy down here. This is a job for someone unemployed, not worth giving up what you have. If a no name turns it down, it has to be mission impossible.

You've got to be ferkin jerkin.

It's a class opportunity for most managers outside the top 5 or 6. Take away serial money waster such as Chelsea etc.. How many other opportunities come around in football for a manager to come in, have half a squad and a war chest the size of Beijing to pretty much build up your very own squad from scratch right from the word go?

Not to mention being propped up by one of, if not THE most fantastic youth academy on the country.

It's an excellent chance for any manager worth his salt. Stevebruce or any other manager at a level below the worlds giant clubs would be an absolute fool to say no.

Look, I know you're a WUM but this is stretching it even for you. Although I expect your response to be "I didnt say we'd have a chance, I just want him". Well in that respect you might as well say you want Jose.

I'd be stunned if Saints wanted Bruce, they're much more likely to go all foreign and sexy and I have a sneaky suspicion of Laudrup. Unless he's working somewhere else, I've really paid no attention anywhere outside our club to be honest.

I'm no such thing and I'm deadly serious.

Benitez would be a fantastic step up.

It would be a great move for any manager. Providing there is stability at the top. However I cant see how Bruce would fit their bill.

Of course he would, I didnt dispute that. So would Jose and Ancellotti. The point is Benitez wouldnt leave a team in the Champions League, 60k crowds and a massive playing budget that saw them spend £30m plus on Higuain last summer. Can you really see him scouring around for £1.5m dutch league bargains?

Ah, thought the BFT was still unemployed.

    Is Capello in a job?

Brian McDermott would be a shrewd acquisition too.

I find it hard to believe Steve Bruce would be remotely near any shortlist the club has drawn up. He doesn't have a history of bringing through youth players or playing in a similar style to Pochettino and his appointment would make Krueger and Reed look extremely foolish and alienate a lot of the fan base. They have spoken of applications from managers who have won leagues, international managers, have good experience in the Champions League/Europa League and also of young progressive managers. Steve Bruce is none of those.

    Krueger a week ago...

    Reed yesterday...

Just so happens Bruce is also looking for a new contract and transfer fund assurances at Hull at the moment and this is more than likely to be his agent feeding the press.

Never mind the press, his agent must have his hands full keeping old cushion face fed, the fat bastard.

The bookies don't believe he's the new first choice, they've still got him fourth choice on about 10/1.

Lots of ill-informed nonsense from some Hull fans in this thread.

    For example...

    No you don't.

Southampton play a 4-2-3-1/433 system and had the highest possession % average in the Premier League last season.

Have you seen last season's league table or watched both the games between the teams?

Using what criteria are Hull bigger than Saints?

In Southampton's relegation season from the Premier League in 2004/05 they averaged 30,610.

In any case, the next Southampton manager is going to have a large transfer budget regardless of player sales, if players are sold the club have said that will all be added to the transfer fund. The manager would have to be pretty dreadful to get the club relegated with the resources he'll get.

    Well that is nonsense! :D

    - The last season Saints were in League 1 they averaged 22,161
    - The last season Saints were in the Championship they averaged 26,420

    Both significantly higher than Hull.

    Do you? Why?

Please dont take some of these ridiculous points seriously - you are presently a much better team than us with much better players. However I will pull you up on your reasoning of why you are bigger than us. Attendance has nothing whatsoever to do with who is bigger. Are Dortmund the biggest club in Europe? Are Newcastle without a trophy in 50 years bigger than Juventus and their 31 league titles and European cups?

What you should have responded with is how many top flight seasons you have had in your history compared to our 3 and that wouldve done it.
