I heard he was 16.5k on his last deal with Sunderland after payrise due to apps. Previously he was getting a peasants wage of 5-6k.

But yeah dicked him about trying to get him to sign on for buttons in PL terms. The when it got to crunch time, met his demands. Such was his right and quite sensibly, he said I'll wait and see whats on offer/if we survive. They can't blame anyone but themselves. He has then taught them a royal lesson and got a move to a bigger club in the process. Just very smart on his part really. Mags have always been smarter than the scum though.

Yeah, he's ours mostly as part of their attempt to unleash their inner ashley lol! I can't believe their fans saying he's no good now that he's gone. You ask a neutral and they'll tell you he's better than cleverly and henderson. I mean he was one of the main reasons they stayed up this past season FFS!!

Imagine if he scores at the SOL!!! Colbackstabber they'll chant and the whole city will burn down!

From the Mackems perspective it all boils down to three questions:

- Who will replace him?
- What cost will a replacement be?
- Will the replacement be good enough?

Time will tell on all 3 fronts but with players like Sidwell moving on a free there is potential acquisitions out there to let them kick on.

Not just replacing him, have you seen our squad?

Barely enough left to put a team out.

Are you sure? We replace Gosling with someone on a free who is better than Jordan Henderson?!?! We've got the canniest commercial team in World football.

Sadly, we signed Colback, who's more Mark Noble than Jordan Henderson.

Fair enough you don't want Colback here, thats your opinion. <ok>

But do you seriously believe its bad business that we have signed a player for free, when we are in urgent need of rebuilding the squad.

Gosling was a non-entity, who made 20 or so appearances in four years, so beats me how he's replacing some F***** that never actually played unless of course the plan is to loan him out or to be a permanent bench warmer.

I can too, Poyet needs to build his team to his style, although I've enjoyed the new style of play it's abundantly clear that a lot of players are struggling with it. If some big heads have to roll to develop the squad we need then so be it. More gradual the better of course. I can only see strikers leaving this Summer though, maybe AJ in a shock move but we don't have too many players left. I think we'll sell Fletcher and Scocco this window.

Finally you're stumbling on his level when you look at your squad. Doesn't make him a bad signing though, competition for places is a good thing and he'll give you that. Time will tell but if it becomes apparent that Pardew has brought him in as Yohan's replacement then I'll probably piss myself with laughter. It would be a true gift from the dark side ;)

I agree with you Bri, we need competition with fresh faces and he brings that. I don't think anyone expects him to suddenly be a top class player, but, if he can do a job that every team needs, fair do's for me.
If he was to be Cabaye's replacement I think we'll be a touch p***** off, but, that still wouldn't make him a bad signing, just highlight further Ashley and Co for what they are. Hopefully it won't come to that.

He is decent...end of. No he is not flash or french but he puts in a top effort and does actually have the ability to boss a game from what I have seen, drives others on around him. Now he's playing for a big club in front of proper crowds perhaps it will inspire him to do it on a more consistant basis.

Fletcher would not be a lose if the money is replaced he has gone of the boil.
You need someone quick to play up top with whickham to play of him that could be a gd move

Don,t often come on here and although I wanted Colback to stay I feel we already have a replacement in Gomez
Colback will give a 100% he is a decent player but if you think he is Cabaye,s replacement good luck to you
And if you don,t rate Gomez your going to be disappointed in Colback

We dont like, we don't play two up top, we play 433. A striker and inverted wide men. We do need a quick striker as an option though. Fletch hasn't gone of the boil, he's was playing with an injury, but word has it that he wants out.

Has MA tried to sell Colback already? First inclination would be that it's nonsense but there were rumours about a week or so back amongst West Ham supporters that they had tried to sign Colback. Apparently he was desperate to join them after they offered him £70k per week, but he had already signed an agreement with another club and couldn't back out.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/newcastle-west-hams-bizarre-transfer-3672136

It is understood, however, that the Toon were left stunned after being told the player had had an overnight change of heart - possibly sparked by concerns over the reaction on Wearside - and now wanted to move to the Upton Park club.

A remarkable week of wrangling then ensued in which Colback’s representatives allegedly tried to backtrack - only to be told by Newcastle that they had already reached agreement and the club were not willing to go back on it.

At one stage, they did offer to actually SELL Colback to West Ham for £5million.

It was when the Hammers declined the audacious move that the player’s move to Newcastle was confirmed.
