I think he's great at what he was employed to do; work on the commercial side of the club. He has clearly done that exceptionally well; our revenue for a non CL team has been great and only improved in the last few years with further sponsorships or improved deals on the horizon. I think he gets alot of flak for the transfer windows but it won't be just down to him. No club would ever let someone inexperienced in that aspect of the club solely responsible for it. This new role smacks of giving him a fancy new title and pay rise though to keep him happy rather than for any real purpose. I wouldn't expect his role to change too much. Transfers are still decided by the whole committee, big calls on running the club still made by Werner and Henry and the team still picked by Rodgers.
ermmmmm hang on. in 2007 was ayre in a position to influence ANYTHING that G&H did (bar getting sued with borughton and purslow as part of the home team??? look at all the good things, genuine good things that's occurred fro LFC, record after record breaking revenue increasing deals. the appointment of rodgers (even if only in small part) the signings made or not. sorry but since FSG have come in ayre has played his part, long with others, in a transformational process that's brought us to where we are right now. Just how long did it take to create city out of ashes? two owners, 4 managers.. how many millions? Sorry but to give no credit for all the good and focus on transfer windows especially when the majority he was not even involved in! sorry but that can't be the case. no body's perfect though.... perhaps he needs more ego like purslow to be liked more
I read that Ayre has offered his resignation when FSG first came in but they rejected it. They wanted him to 'steady the ship' while they find a suitable replacement but realised that he was pretty good.
or as the critics would say of fsg, didn't bother/couldn't find anyone cheap enough... it depends on point of view i suppose. I am still not sure which but do not think ayre is all that bad and he cares... it counts for something...
Is he the best? Probably not Is he the worst? Certainly not Have we progressed since he has come in? Absolutely, both on and off the pitch. Can't really complain too much
