Fulhaman, are you for real. Sorry mate but he is a quality keeper, and Dutch International who made some outstanding stops for us and was berated by some unjustifiably. We could replace him with a rookie?
We can afford to lose Steklenburg, bearing mind his wages and the fact he is unlikely to be motivated in the championship I think it's best he leaves! especially as In Stockdale we have a senior keeper who is only 27 years old, who would be good in the championship having already won promotion in that division and should be entering the prime of his career
I would assume Felix will address any motivation issues if the "Situation" arises So who would we have when Stockdale is injured? Or is the plan to go out and buy a senior international (presumably on £20/week) to replace the one we already have.
If Stekelenburg does leave (and if he wants to, I'm not inclined to keep an unhappy player), then we absolutely have to go and find a replacement. We need competition for Stockdale, let alone cover.
Bettenelli would be ok as a back up, he got great reviews playing first team football in league 2 last year!!
My favourite is Jeronin, but I fear he is on the move, if not already gone. Earlier reports said Southampton were interested.
Well according to the 'Official - Full List of All Players and Current Status' thread Joronen is currently considering a contract offer from the club. I think I'd like to see Bettinelli out on loan again, at league one level this time.
I know Jesse has always been your firm favourite rosc, and I'd certainly put him ahead of Bettinelli (like you FI, I'd prefer Marcus to have another loan spell). Felix obviously rates Joronen enough to have him on the bench to cover Stockdale in the Palace match and the Finns too, given that he captains their U21 side. However.. I have a few misgivings about his positioning and he has boobed a couple of time in our U21s last season. There's no doubting he's got potential but I do think we need more 'seasoned' cover for Stockdale. PS Isn't it amazing, this time last year there were posts mystified about our strategy over goalkeepers when we had 8/9 on the books. Assuming Stekelenburg goes, we're now down to 4 and only 1 of those with League experience.
We can just wing it and if we get stuck we'll call upon the mighty Tony Warner to step in and save the day again.
