    They won one game. They beat UCD 2-0 the night before the play off final in Wembley.

    Not a bad little town. Right in the middle of the country. On the banks of the River Shannon.

    If my memory is right they were the Irish League Champions when I lived in Waterford in the 70s, they must have fallen a long way...

    999's, Athlone is quite close to Co. Laois. You could have a pint with your relatives in Rathdowney and be in the ground in an hour.

    The Dublin game is rumoured to be Shamrock Rovers but waiting for confirmation.

    Cheers Finglas, I'm just checking my rota and typically I'm on my second day shift on the 5th. I shall try and get the day off or get a shift swap with someone else. What's the best airport to fly into?

    Dublin is the best airport and get a lift off one of us. It is about a 1.5 hour drive to Athlone.

    Swords might even pick you up. He is 10 minutes from the airport.

    Just my luck...heading off on holidays from the 1st to 11th August Athlone and Dublin only an hour away from me :( . Athlone are brutal bottom of the table and only 1 win Rovers are a good side and easy to get to on the Luas

    How far is the ground from Dublin airport as I might look at flying out on the day and return after game or if no flights after game finishes stay 1 night. That is the Saturday game.

    The ground is a good 12-14 miles from the airport. A taxi from the airport would be 40 euros at least. I would advise you to stay overnight. The easiest way to get to the ground from the city centre is to take the red line luas tram to Tallaght..

    <yikes>

    I'll be in Roscrea - might have to pop along to Athlone.

    Hope you won't mind an interloper! <laugh> <ok>
