There are 4 positions we currently need new first choice players for, I expect Wenger to address 2 of them in this window, the striker and RB

Im sure we'll see a new back up keeper as well

Almost all entirely accurate... except you forgot to say that our season will then end with some fans on here claiming that in 2015/16 Wenger really will have to deliver this time... ;)

There's no point passing on Fabregas to sign a mediocre defensive midfielder.

Ok so it's a position we are 'weaker' in but a Schneiderlin is not an improvement on a Flamini/Arteta.

Lars Bender, Kevin Strootman, Martinez would all make sense but for me signing a decent but not World Class DM wouldn't do anything to push us forward.
They need to be established TOP class players or younger potentially TOP class players.

I think 4 players: (CM) Fabregas, Matthias Ginter (DM/CB), Balotelli (ST) and a (RB) Aurier/Coleman would be enough to overtake Chelsea/City.

    Home:

    ----------------------Sczezney------------------------
    Aurier-------BFG-------------Koscielney-------Gibbs
    -------------Ramsey--------Fabregas-----------------
    ------------------------Ozil-----------------------------
    --Walcott-------------Balotelli--------------Carzorla--

We could also play Giroud and a 5 man midfield (with a DM) for tough away games. But to be honest there's soo much firepower here not many teams could cope with it.

    and a strong Bench:

Giroud, Chamberlain, Arteta, Podolski, Flamini, Vermaelen, GK.

Fabregas £33 - Bring him home.
Balotelli £20 million - bit of a nutcase but he has to realise his potential. The guy could be one of the Worlds best players.
Aurier £8million - 21 Athletic, potentially Top Class
Mathias Gintter £10 million - Just 20 the guy has made a big impact in Germany over the last two years. Equilly comfortable at DM or CB.
    - All well within our budget.

Yes, because while we may have a lot of midfielders at the moment, 4 of them will potentially be gone by next season, Arteta, Rosicky will both be out of a contract, Diaby is already I believe without a contract? And should he have another injury plagued season then it's pretty much it, and I doubt Flamini will be with us at the start of the 2015 season. So there's going to be a big hole in that midfield to fill in just 1 season, having Fabregas back can make a huge difference to that problem, he alone is like 2 super quality midfielders.

To be fair to Wenger, he did deliver to a certain degree last season by winning the FA Cup. But he sure has to sort out the same problems he never seems to sort out! Or else I'm going to be really pissed off.

Reports are that Chelsea's bid for Fabregas is deliberately below £30million so as to avoid any pYment going to Arsenal.

That's why Mourinho is a winner. (and an Arsehole) he is competitive in everything. In our situation I have no doubts he would buy back Fabregas just to stop his opposition getting a World Class player.

Wenger seems to lack this kind of fighting mentality unfortunately.

we ned to buy if only to stop a competitor doing so. i now that doesn't sound very romantic in a footballing way and sounds more like a business decision. thats exactly what Chelsea and Man city have been doing for ages, they buy players when they are available and don't wait till they need someone as they might not be available. so buy now if only to **** off Mo

So we should spend a big chunk of our transfer budget just to stop other teams from getting a player especially when we have 4 positions of greater need? Isn't that exactly what we say is wrong with the big oil money clubs?

I loved Cesc, and I truly believe that when he lands at Chelsea (assuming that is where he lands) he'll be there as a professional getting paid to do a job whilst wanting to be elsewhere, but I'm a 'no' in this survey for two reasons:

    1. There are bigger priorities for us
    2. AW invested in a long term committment when he got Ox, Jack, Rambo and co signed to long term deals, he isn't about to give up on any one of the numerous options we have.

As an aside, I still think there may be a twist to this saga....

Yes - Because it will come back to bite us in the ass big time if we don't.

    No, Im not saying that.

But I am saying stopping him from joining Chelsea is one of the reasons we should buy him. (You really think we can compete with this Chelsea side, should they add Costa and Fabregas??..No Chance.)

    There are others ..
    1. Like 'Arsenal87' pointed out in 12 months we will be in need of more central midfielders. What are the chances we can buy another player of that quality for less than £30 Million?
    2. We need more quality in depth. Players like Kallstrom ar'nt really going to cut it.
    3. He is an Arsenal legend. The fans what him back. He would be a big boost to this Club.
    4. Manchester City and Liverpool now play better football than us. We have good midfielders but lack the classic playmaker that can change the speed of the game in the way we have had in the past. Gone are the days when we used to have more of the ball against even the best EPL teams. These days we get beaten and outplayed.

    1. He is not as good as he is made out to be, personally i think he has gone backwards in the last 2 or 3 years.

    2. He is not an arsenal legend like some are suggesting

    3. We need other players before we need him

    Q. Why are Barca selling him?

    A. Because he is not good enough and they want to improve in that position.

If we offered them a swap with Fabregas and cash for Ozil they would bite our hands off. As others have said, the Cesc they are selling does not appear to be at the same level as when we sold him to them, but having said that, maybe Wenger is the man to get him back there.

The real concern in midfield is the ageing Arteta, and I don't think Cesc is the right person to replace him.
