oh and for the record..i am probably projecting not wanting to be here rather than anything else cos these chumps cost a lot of other americans their jobs in bidding on business and a lot of guys i knew lost theirs as a result. I'm only here cos they can't hire people for training in what i am expert in so i had to come back.
Can I just say I meant no offence to anybody on the s*** issue. It's a subject close to my heart and having had the same discussion with rival fans several times before who always bring up 'but I bet you watch sky though don't you' really hacks me off. It's got nothing to do with sky and bringing that up is a sure way of ensuring a diversion from the s*** boycott. Apologies to G if I was out of order with my comments to you. The bigger picture is: If you live in Liverpool, as I said several times on that thread, the boycott is never going to change whether all the old staff have left the paper or not. The smaller picture is: in other 'discussions' I've had about it, lots of younger fans don't understand the boycott and some buy the s***, I think talking about it shows why they may want to re-think that. Apologies again.
Nope... technically I get three weeks paid a year off. Sick, or vacation- comes out same allowed time off. I can "bank" one week a year- so I always do (which effectively means I only get two weeks vacation a year)... I have to bank that extra week in case I get badly hurt, or sick (or get laid off)... If I have to miss an extended stretch of work (say I fall down the stairs and hurt my back) - I back up one week vacation a year so that I don't have to go without pay... also... should I be laid off- in America you don't get same compensation (some places give none)... so any paid time off I don't use (my one week a year)- I can get paid for when I leave the company... would give me a little money to survive short term before a new job. Most weeks I'm only in the office 8 hours or less... other places I've worked (and at other times here) it's been much more than that though. Because the money is all spent on the army instead of the civilians! A little under 50% of the entire world's military spending is spent by the US. It is... it's about building things as cheap as possible. You can buy a decent 3 bedroom house for under £70k. Sure, it's made of wood- and the interior walls are made of a thin cardboard like substance (drywall)- but it keeps the rain off your head and is a place to keep your stuff... and even expensive houses in the US have interior walls made of cardboard. The plus side is- you don't have all the rules and regulations that you have in the UK. If you want to do work on your house- you don't need all the permits and permissions you need in the UK... you're free to do your work on your own house. (different housing estates have different rules though... in my neighbourhood I have to submit any plans on any exterior visible work done on my property). Northern problems! Almost never see rust down south. Worst I got is my grass in my front lawn half-died over the winter... and even now I have massive dead brown spots... (I must plant some new grass). Being in the south we have to grow warm-weather grasses. Bermuda grass, centipede, or Zoysia. Centipede, what I have, dies off if the temperature stays below zero for more than a few days. Centipede is ugly, as far as grass grows, but it survives drought, and I don't have to water it. You can get better Chinese food in America! Besides that though- I can publicly call Obama an idiot without getting arrested- and I can protest in the capitol without being run over by a tank. So living here is a fair bit better than living in China... and there are more beverages available than unfiltered water and fermented horse milk... so I'd say better than *****lia too!
What was the "I like pushing back" thread about... I take it it was a bad WUM- but I read the comments and can't figure out what the wum was about.
but milk sisuwould say thats what the top guys want you to think... in fact the *****lian is quite happy living like his forefathers but you are poisoned with the crap we get
According to World Happiness Report US is ranked near the top on most matrix. China and *****lia frequently near the bottom.
Don't get me wrong, I love the States and could quite happily live over there. There's nothing better than a U.S. Roadtrip, I've been lucky enough to do a few now and I can't wait to come back and see another chunk of the place. It's just that the image the U.S. Has around the planet is somewhat tarnished when you see the substance (or lack of) behind the gloss. It's not the uber polished country that you'd expect to see.
No... it's mostly trashy with a few areas of exquisite beauty. It's highly educated geniuses surrounded by people that think dinosaurs never existed. The US is a country of extremes... and there is more poverty than rich people. More trailer-parks than Beverly Hills neighbourhoods.
Random rant: Just got an ad in my inbox for a cheapo tablet. $70... the maker: Nobis. NOBIS? What a horrible name. What the hell were they thinking starting a company called Nobis. I see two ways... ok maybe three ways of pronouncing that: 1) "Nob-is" - Which, goes without saying is a stupid name- never put "knob" in your company/product name. (Hobnob acknowledged as OK!) 2) "No-biz" - Which for an IT company would be equally stupid. No business? Why would I want them to make me a tablet? I guess a third potential pronunciation is "Nob-bees"- but since I'm not into "Bee-stiality" that still sounds equally dumb.
Nobis is Latin for 'us' - pronounced no-biss [rhyming with no kiss]. Funny name for a company as you say.
Do you think it's not more likely that far more respondents were from the west??? Just as a question I mean sure the oppressed of this world live is blissful ignorance while some of us have the horrible feeling our freedom is an illusion... And the rest of us just don't care I think we are the luckier 10% who live as customers of the richest 0.1% who we wish we were.... The other 89.9% are the oppressed, depressed, repressed and just plain don't know any better
Don't worry about it pal, those topics always get heated. Just didn't like you putting me in the same category as most wums etc you get on here. I appreciate the circumstances and that it is part of society in that part of the world too. the main thing that irritated me is that the response was aimed at me rather than me and Tobes, when I returned I realised who responded which obviously made sense why that happened It was a wum. I changed the OP and title
