i think this is all about emotion and as such its not needing logic to jusify. the fact is mcscummy and his sort have periodically stood up and stuck the knife in again and again and again to self publicize. they have more than simply not apologized about on their own have continued the line others certainly didn't. as nobody bothered any sort of olive branch (no doubt due to not wanting to pay compensation etc) and its gone on far too long. it is convenient to ignore who owns what. i personally stuck to all press owned by: rather than tv. yet they own the times dont they!
Not sure its even entirely emotion for some, its more a way of life because its been the same for so long. PS...for the record, I used to buy that paper when I was younger until I was old enough to understand what had happened. Not bought one for about fifteen years now.
Yes along with owning Harper Collins/Penguin/Macmillan/Simon and Schuster books ....... etc. etc. The HFG support the Don't buy the s*** campaign, that's good enough for me. I supported it before they added their name to it and will continue to support it, which is why the OP is good news. I also think watering down a very strong campaign to include everything Murdoch or News Corp own, devalues the very great effort put in so far!

Don't try and ****ing pigeon hole me! I understand its a no go zone and never said any different. I simply agreed with Tobes that it seems a bit silly when you consider the individuals involved in the original incident. Nothing that happens will change the fact that they printed such damaging lies all those years ago, inlcuding the apology they attempted a couple of years ago!

It's not a fan issue, never has been. It's always been an issue that the City faced, football was **** all to do with it. So if you can't grasp that simple fact, then maybe you're not the one to be 'educating' anyone on the issue (patronising much btw?) EDIT: Scousers don't read the S*n - the end. That won't change. But it shouldn't be sacrosanct to discuss the actual logic behind the blanket 'ban' and how the line is drawn where it is.
A touchy subject, I don't want the thread getting out of hand, the OP was posting a positive article praising the actions of these posties. Your all grown ups and can have a big argument if you want but I would suggest that if your a bit pissed off just walk away other than carrying on.

It was a city issue of course but also a fan issue mate. No offence but as you know I go to a lot of games home and away and I hear it all the time, we hear the chants and we hear the snide remarks in plenty of places we go to. I got banged up for the night for butting some cockney **** outside Euston...he wasn't slagging scousers, he was slagging (and I quote) "those dirty Liverpool fans who piss on their own dead". That didn't come from Sky. It didn't come from The Times. Had it done so then we'd have been boycotting them. It's not sacrosanct to discuss where the line is drawn but like jb I find the regular harping back to the "why do you watch Sky then?" argument a distraction from the real issue. I don't want the thread to deteriorate into a slanging match lads that was never the intention.

Great post mate I maybe didn't appreciate the fact that the Sky issue has apparently often been chucked into the discussion by others who maybe weren't coming at it from the same angle I was. As there's no way on Gods Earth I was trying to cheapen the discussion.
The city got the bollocks torn out of it post Heysel and was seen as fair game by the mainly Thatcherite press of the day which gave her government a platform to do a hatchet job on militant labour controlled city council, the s*n thought they'd get away with the Hillsborough lies and slurs because they'd got away with printing hate filled ****e about the city in the years before(mainly on social and political issues), but they bit off more than they could chew with the lies about Hillsborough and I'm proud of the people of the area and LFC fans around the country as well as fans of other clubs for making them lose millions of pounds in revenue since 1989 and still boycotting the rag today.
