He had a typical Lloyd game from what I saw - only watched up until just before half time. Fairly solid but not spectacular, kept rather busy by Benzema - also seemed to swap flanks fairly often. I wouldn't fault him for any of the first half goals, but that's no consolation for him...

Oh - and Happy Birthday. I have mine tomorrow - share the day with Prince Phillip, but am happily not as decrepit as him...

    Have a great day W_Y :)

I am particularly delighted today..... Mme Yorkie has been hounding me about my "going deaf" for some time... so I was in Boots getting my eyes tested when I saw a sign that said Free Hearing Test ( To those smart arses who will say "nothing wrong with your eyesight then" I was wearing my glasses and that is not the point...... ) anyway I thought I will sign up for a free test.... Well I can report that my hearing is within normal ranges for my age, so nothing to be concerned about.

However I explained Mme Yorkie's problem to the audiologist... and she said does she have a soft voice, well those who know Mme will certainly say she does. She then explained that is it the high pitch that tends to go at my age.... Therefore I should tell Mme to speak up<whistle> when she addresses me .... or make sure I look at her when she speaks.... since I cant see her as my PC is in another room to her headquarters ( the kitchen) .... so perhaps ask her to come to me when she needs to say something <whistle> .

So all in all a good morning ;)

PS W_Y you may be interested now but there is 25% of glasses for the 60s and over at Boots ;)

    Enjoy :)

Afternoon all from a warm Jersey, although there have been some dark clouds today.

I wonder why there wasn't a single Grange Hill character in that BBC poll.

My daughter works in a hospital clinic dealing with hearing problems. Seeing as I am being told the same as Yorkie, when over in the UK I was persuaded to go to her clinic and let her stick a microscope in my ears. One was no problem which I knew, the other one that I also know is not so efficient she put down to a sports injury. It seems that I have a tiny piece of bone knocked off, almost certainly from sticking my ear on a fast moving football in my goalkeeping days. She says that a new bit could be stuck on that would get things back to 100% both sides, but when I mentioned it to the doctor out here he did some tests and didn't think that there was that much of a problem as I could hear him from the other side of the room with my finger stuck in the better one.

After my tests with the microscope I couldn't hear anything out of either ear for four days. :(

My hearing is excellent where offers of a beer are concerned but seriously malfunctions when shopping is being discussed.

Me too, Yorkie, especially French markets. A large boot and proximity to the Portsmouth ferries mean we can bring much more home with us now. Even tinned things like confit de canard are good and jars of rillettes and foie gras too.

Yes I also have selective hearing. Shopping here does lose some of it's novelty when it is on your doorstep, but agree that you never know what you will find on a market.

Come to think of it I haven't seen the guy at our big market for a couple of years who takes orders for tombstones. He always used to be next to the man selling CDs of him playing his accordion.

Cremation is ruining the tombstone business......and accordions are ruining the accordion business.

Free Hearing tests are ok but don't get fleeced into buying a hearing aid when the time comes. Go to the Dr and get sent to the Hospital for the same service including free hearing aids & batteries. The service I get up here in Scotland is excellent.

More later about Mrs S and my communication issues even with the aids!

Hot day here, 31°C and little in the way of a breeze. Strasbourg reported a high of 39°C. 27° or 28° and Mme goes into rabbit mode and refuses to cook. It may seem very simple, but to go and cut, wash then eat a lettuce that hasn't been hanging around a supermarket for a few days is so good.
