makes you wonder, also we know what Italian teams are like for taking loans, then not buying, as they want them for 2 pints and a packet of crisps. If we still have him next season we can use him for cup games, then if we would have missed him and he is a good keeper we may win a cup, don't think he would have made much dif to us finishing 1st or 2nd, could even have got us worst than that. just hope if he is still here he isnt a disruptive influence, but like every other ****er they only seem to speak when on int duty any way.
The rose tinted glasses with Reina are always amusing to read. Have people forgotten what a liability he was for the two seasons proceeding his loan move? Regularly flapped at crosses and messed up straight forward saves [FA cup final for example] He is a good guy, an alright keeper, nothing special, the only thing he has that Migs doesn't is being better with his feet and distribution. The fact that he is still Spain no2 despite Casillas being Real Madrids second keeper says alot.
Under the EPL FFP regualtions, you're only allowed to increase your wage bill by £4m per season. The reason he was shipped out on loan in the first place was to get his £5m salary off the wage bill, there's no way he'll be coming back to sit on your bench. You'll ship him off permanently.
Course we will, not sure why people are entertaining the idea of him staying - when a loan move ends the player returns to their parent club, doesn't mean anything other than Napoli probably won't be the buyers.
And how to come more than 6 inches off his line....... I understand the argument that Ming is a better shot stopper but unfortunately a lot of those shots came because we invite undue pressure by not clearing the danger earlier. Rodgers style of play needs a keeper who can not only pass the ball well but one who acts more like a sweeper (Reina is the best I've ever seen at Anfield for that). We now have a keeper who's as useful at sweeping as Jeremy Beadle with a twiglet in his gammy hand.
In as much as I like Reina, I do not think he deserves another chance with Liverpool. He blew it by saying "he would never play for Liverpool again". He can go to Real Madrid. Bye bye. !
Who says Reina will be second choice? I think he is the better keeper of the two. With any luck- Rodgers will see past his pride and realize that as long as we have a 100k p/w keeper on the books- USE HIM, rather than use the slightly less able keeper.
then you run the risk of pissing the long term option off just to keep the short term one happy, and then his confidence as well as form could be shot to ****.
I completely agree. However in reality he will probably be off abroad, his wages may be an issue but not in an ffp way, wage bill can increase as much as you like provided your own generated commercial revenue [not centrally distributed monies] is increasing to cover it.
if he'd stayed this year that might be the case but i am sick of saying the same so aint bothered. his like we will not see again... lets leave it at that.
Mingolet is the better option for me, can't see Reina being with us at the start of the season buy who knows?
He gave us the best years of his career for very little trophy return, loyalty never questioned and I don't forget that.
I agree but equally.... his best years are no behind him. his prime as a keeper is now, the next 3/4 years. he's only 31 going on 32 this august.
I really liked Reina - I think he WAS one of the best keepers in the game and commanded respect. But he has been poor over the past few years. Migs is a better shot stopper and ultimately does what a keeper should do. He's not perfect but he has won us a few points this season. Reina can pass a ball - he;s perfect for this system but not being able to save shots is simply not good enough. And to pay over £100k a for a keeper is poor and we cant afford to do that. The fact that Napoli are unwilling to meet the £4m release clause for a supposedly top class keeper says it all (we know Italians are the tightest bast*rds in the game but even Rafa doesn't want him). If only we could combine both Migs and Reina ... then we'd have a quality keeper. Or if Reina just gets back to his best!
