Looks like he'll be used as one of two dm's, with Anita/Tiote. Well, we hope so. The aim here is not to have him making "key passes", but to get the ball to our creative attackers, who will either be the remarkably un-creative Gouffran and Sissoko, or some players who can do something if we bother spending more than £0 on a player.

Good signing if it is confirmed. As others have said, has to be Goslings replacement though, not Cabaye's! Much better than Gosling.

Well that''s the problem, he's not good defensively either, he's only real use if a small cog in a passing game. In fact, until you get a manager who starts playing proper football i can't see Jack's impact being anything but minimal. He's not a bad rb though, still square peg round hole.

Well that's not what i'm asking is it? Work it out. <doh>

And he's a very good footballer, you'd have to play proper football to get anything out of him though. Big problem that is.

Aye no offence fella just playing. Proper football under Pardew isn't happening. Colback to me comes across as a midfield plodder like Gosling. We'd be better off with Jimmy Porch

He's tidy mate, very tidy indeed, he rarely gives the ball away and nearly always completes his pass, he's a great footballer footballer if you know what I mean? But he's limited, he's average defensively and worse going forward. He doesn't get up and down the pitch enough, he can't shoot, he doesn't cover other positions. Looking back before Poyet, back to his last midfield stint(he played rb for quite a while) Was under MoN with no clear on pitch philosophy at all and he was rubbish. Even playing it out from the back on the deck which seems to suit him, his lack of positivity is really frustrating. Just don't think he's the right signing for you, but a lot of you already know that.

He's a proper Pardew signing going off what you say. I don't think he's came here to warm our bench which worries me. Anyway I won't get upset or excited about it. I don't like the signing 1 bit but he needs a chanxe

Very decent player. Won't set your world alight, but he won't bollocks it up either. Remain unconvinced that playing for Pardew is going to be good for him though, although the (presumed) pay rise won't hurt.

I figure he's worth about 5 million pounds, maybe a little more considering he's english. Getting him on a free makes sense. Now i just want gomis, De jong/cabella, and a pacey forward (doesn't have to be a Striker). Ideally I would rather the support around our currently non-existent number 10 to improve, that way when we sell him our heart doesn't get ripped out. I wouldn't mind armstrong being given a go in that spot. We all want to see him develop right? He could be the next ross barkley...

Don't think playing for Pardew is a good thing for any player.

Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has raised the stakes ahead of this weekend's Wear-Tyne derby by claiming none of Sunderland's players would make the Magpies' first team.

The two sides square off at the Stadium of Light at lunch-time on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, and proud Geordie Taylor is adamant his team are the stronger of the two on paper.

Asked how many Sunderland players would get into the Newcastle side, a smiling Taylor replied: "Not even one player. That is the quality we possess.

"Not even one player. That is the quality we possess. We say it all the time. Last year, even the gaffer said it, he has our team above Sunderland."

    Steven Taylor

"We say it all the time. Last year, even the gaffer said it, he has our team above Sunderland.

"The attacking options we have can hurt any side. And then we have Shola Ameobi - the Sunderland Slayer. His record against them is phenomenal (seven goals in 12 games).

"However, it is all very well saying that, but we have to go out and deliver. That is down to the players.

"It is all right saying, 'Yes, the team sheet looks great' but you have to go and perform."

Asked whether he would ever consider playing for Sunderland, Taylor added: "I would rather collect stamps than stick on that shirt!

"I have not got any friends who are Sunderland fans. As for the players, I am friendly with one or two of them from the U21s, but that was before they signed for Sunderland!
