Last season we got slated by the media for spending 40 something million on Ozil in a position, which according to them, didn't need an additions. Now we're being slated for not investing in that same position that 1 year ago we were "overstocked" in after we've already bought on of the best CAMs in the world. Cesc can't play as a DM and Ozil wouldn't be dropped and I'd be pissed if we dropped Ramsey for him. We don't need a CAM/CM but a DM. As well as a RB, Striker and GK. That's 4 positions that we should invest in before even thinking about spending a good deal of our transfer budget on what would essentially be a luxury signing.

Yes! Rosicky, Diaby, Wilshire all injury prone; Arteta, Rosicky not long left, Fabregas is class and will improve options in the squad, improve it mentally, and will allow you guys to rotate and not burn out your class, but light players!

Pretty much this. A neutral point of view looking at our squad weakness and something I agree with. This transfer has larger repercussions should we not go with it. We should be closing the gap not widening it again, which will happen if he goes in the hands of any of the top teams.

Exactly. You don't have to drop Ozil or Ramsey, it's about quality in depth which Arsenal lack.

Interesting to see why more neutrals want us to go for him. Is it because you don't want him to go to one of the big teams to make them better, you think he won't make a significant impact, or you'd rather he comes to us as you hate the others?

Edited it as it made no sense :p

I'm voting yes because whilst there are other areas that are a priority, Fabregas would a signing of Ozil like proportions and we'd be mad to pass up on the opportunity.

I'm with you and a few others. I think we would be mad to pass up on him should the opportunity arise. He would make us better in a lot of different way - Improved passing, improved ball retention and possession, improved link up play with midfield and forwards, improve leadership, improve our morale and confidence on and off the pitch, his experience of playing with WC players in Barca will help players like Ramsey, Wilshere, Oxo etc develop, take the pressure off Ozil and knows exactly how to carry out Wengers instructions to a tee.

You think he's regretted leaving us? And that we have some sort of moral obligation to let him 'rot' in a team where he grew up, plays every weak, plays with a squad much better than ours, and wins far more trophies?

We're the ones that would be honored to have a player of his quality come back to us... not the other way around.

My reasons are twofold, and are very selfish

    1) Lets not beat around the bush, I want Chelsea to sign him because he is a great player. A selfish reason but simple as that. No point trying to masque that.

    2) Arsenal need to prioritise a forward then a defensive midfielder, and then a right back, in that order. (imo). Fabregas should only be signed if you manage to achieve adequate signings in all those areas and still have money left in the transfer budget. I think you have plenty of cash, but I dont see Arsene spending that much in one window, it would be completely alien to him.

Like I said in another thread, I fully expect Arsene to make two signings along these lines:
    1) An African player of moderate fame over 30 on a free transfer or a couple million fee
    2) Some random unknown Eastern European Youngster between the ages of 18-22 for around £5m.

Then he will claim your squad is ready for the new season and he expects them to challenge....then you will finish 4th! <ok>
