Showing my age as didn't see most of the above play, unfortunately.

Maybe not for the final 8 but also to be considered:

    Nigel Gibbs,
    Paul Robinson,
    Lloyd Doyley,
    Tommy Smith,
    Robert Page?

    How is greatest defined though?

From the players that I have seen:

    Cliff Holton
    Keith Eddy
    Luther Blissett
    Nigel Gibbs
    John Barnes
    Nigel Callaghan
    Heidar Helguson

    and, controversially,

Tony Currie, who although playing a handful of games (21 including as a sub) still managed to score 9 goals including 2 hat-tricks and a brace! Of course he never realised his full potential with us.

Others who perhaps should merit inclusion are Kevin Phillips, Ross Jenkins I, Mooney, Jackett, Bolton, Scullion ...............

A tough one indeed, although I would say that despite his massive role in our greatest era, Ian Bolton could never be considered one go the greatest 8! Steve Sims from that era would be higher in my opinion.

During my 40-45 year support I would have to say John Mclleland has to be first on the list.
I would then add Tony Coton and John Barnes
Luther and Ross No.1 for obvious reasons
    Alan Nielsen
    Almen Abdi

and then it could be one of many! (I just missed Pat Jennings and Tony Currie but was lucky enough to see both play after they left), So it could be any from:
Keith Eddy, Kevin Richardson, Filippo Galli, Nigel Callaghan, Stewart Scullion, Mo Johnston, Ashley Young etc

    Cliff Holton
    Stewart Scullion
    John Barnes
    Luther Blisset
    Tony Coton
    John McClelland
    Ross Jenkins (1)
    Ian Bolton

It is so very difficult to decide on how to weight a player as a member of a team or someone who was a good player in their own right. Dennis Uphill was a perfect partner for Cliff Holton and made a big contribution to the club winning promotion, but was not really a great player. Pat Jennings showed at an early age how he would become a great goalkeeper, but he was sold before WFC could see the full range of his abilities.

Probably want to change some of them in the morning. ;)

This is unfair! On what basis do we choose?

Immediately those who come to the fore for me are

    Cliff Holton
    Stewart Scullion
    John Barnes
    Luther Blissett
    Ross Jenkins
    Ian Bolton
    Keith Eddy
    Tommy Mooney
    Heidar Helguson
    Tony Coton
    Nigel Gibbs
    Lloyd Doyley
    Tom Walley
and I could go on and one..... and that is more than 8 already!

to only pick 8 for the flag we must look for the players that have Watford in there blood and if that the case we should think of putting Elton or at least graham taylor on it
the other point is on all the players listed there was only one keeper there ?

so here is my list of people with Watford in there blood

    1 graham taylor
    2 paul robinson
    3 keith eddy
    4 nigel gigs
    5 chopper (Duncan) welbourn
    6 Lloyd doyley
    7 tom walley
    8 tony coton

and if we can make the flag bigger then stewart scullion steve simms Kenny jacket and he mite not be great get but what about troy.

    1. Graham Taylor
    2. Luthur
    3. John McClelland
    4. Tony Coton
    5. John Barnes
    6. Ian Bolton
    7. Tommy Mooney
    8. Paul Robinson

Tough seeming as this will be in the stands, you do want some more recent players too rather than go on about history, otherwise it would be so easy just to name most from the 80s... With a few older ones, and Doyley!

    Think I'd go for:

    Barnes
    Blissett
    Gibbs
    Jackett
    Coton
    Mooney
    Doyley

Tough thinking of the last one.... was thinking DeMerit for the play off final v Leeds. Otherwise so many from the 80s like McLelland, Callaghan... More recently maybe Deeney, Eustace, Dyche....

Isn't it GT plus 8 players? I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Wilf Rostron.
