I think that TalkShite is purposely over-hyping England's chances in the World Cup...

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Jun 8, 2014.

  1. ...so that it fuels their rip-off telephone call-ins when we're sent home in abject humiliation, at the end of the group stages.

I spent 10 mins in the car this glorious Sunday, listening to Alvin Martin spout some of biggest load of bollocks I've heard. Far worse than Mickey Dim or Ginger Durham. He was worse even than some of the numpties who post on the Gooner and Chav boards! He was arguing hypothetical points about what Roy will do given certain hypothetical scenarios. Not one of those scenarios envisaged England getting absolutely mullered. I'm all for a bit of fantasy, but this is just plain stupidity.

Also, the apologists are already starting to invent their reasons and excuses why England have played so ****e in their last two warm-up games, and to explain why this won't make any difference, when England kicks off against Italy. Not one of these idiots has considered that the same might also be said for Italy.

Alvin seems to believe that England is better than Italy, and that we're going to be too strong for them. We're not even better than Honduras ffs!

You wait. Come the end of June, Saggers and Collymore will be deconstructing the entire debacle and trying to come to terms with why the likes of Rooney, Wiltshire, and Sturridge are so completely and utterly ****e against their European counterparts, and why a team like Costa Rica can so easily make us look like muppets.

    It won't be pretty.

They are a talk radio show - clue is in the name.

You've answered your own question in that they get more calls when they talk us up only to let us down. It would be rather boring (and depressing) if they moaned on and on about the team - let the callers do that - and really, if we all agreed then there'd be no place for a talk radio show anyway.

If we were really good and had a great chance at the world cup, the chances are high that they'd talk us down for the same effect.

Me personally - I like the debate though I don't think they necessarily believe what they say.

I can confidently say that Rooney will continue his duck of never scoring a World Cup goal for the fourth tournament running and the likes of Sturridge and Sterling will prove to be better international prospects than that over hyped excuse for a player.

Gerrard whined about Honduras' tackling. Honduras is a tiny country without half the talent of any of its opponents. Its only chance is to play hard and tackle hard, and it had better work on both in the games before the World Cup. If Gerrard or anyone else doesn't want to deal with a tough team playing hard (which some might view as valuable practice), he can put on a dress and bat his eyes at passing sailors.

How are the red tops writing about England at the moment ??
They usually are the barometer of deluded expectation on this matter.

Strange that Gerrard didn't whinge about Sterling's reckless tackle against Ecuador. I'm sure it has nothing to do with both of them playing for Liverpool - just like Glen Johnson defending Suarez's handball in one of the World Cup documentaries doing the rounds on BBC Three at the moment...

We get this every time. England's chances are akin to Hull City winning the F.A. Cup :D

Well, they came close, but with everything in their favour - upped their game when it mattered, favourable draw, favourites knocking each other out or imploding.....

It's not going to happen. If Hull fans posted comments on here on 3rd round draw day talking up their chances, we'd call them deluded. Which is what many England fans become at this time.

I just bought a new telly with the "cash for goals" promotion. You can either choose England and get £10 per goal or choose Brazil and get £5 per goal instead. No prize for guessing which team I decided to choose. No brainer!

If we make it out of the groups with this team I'll consider it a successful World Cup. Our defence has really looked shaky against some pretty average sides and if you put better players in those positions they'll hurt you. On top of that we couldn't even score against Hondurous when they were down to 10 men.

I disagree. Every team in the league has a chance of winning the FA Cup because luck plays a big part. The way the draw is set up benefits the underdogs as it's completely random with no seeding. So for example, Hull only had to beat one Premier League team(Sunderland) to get to the final this year. Not taking anything away from them because they did well to get there and were unlucky with the decisions in the lead up to the first 2 Arsenal goals. Arsenal had the tougher run in but even they had the advantage of not having to play an away game through the entire tournament.

The World Cup is seeded and as we're no longer seeds we don't enjoy the preferential treatment. We have 2 particularly tough games to get through just to make it to the last 16 and from there on in there's unlikely to be any "lucky" draws for us, like you can get in the FA Cup.

Indeed they do and I didn't realise until recently that they arranged with BT so their official club telephone number ends with 1966.
