You know what, the racing today has made me fall back in love with this sport. Over the last year due to loads of different things i have been losing some interest. There have been injuries to star horses, the jumps season proved a bit of a damp squib with former champions and favourites showing that they are past their best (big buck's et al), shock results amongst a few other things. Today though we have had a true star in Cirrus Des Aigles win the coronation cup and a very highly anticipated derby live up to the hype with the best horses in the race prove themselves as real stars. Really looking forward to Royal Ascot now. Hopefully we will see Treve and Kingman in top form amongst others!
I agree oddie - but Talent was somewhat of a surprise win but I feel this Filly is a different class. In her last two races she has pulled away. The Dermot Weld Filly was clearly thought a lot of as was Marvellous and yet Tagroodha looked in a different class, which it's fair to say the first two in the Derby looked today. What I like is that no horse has given Tagroodha a race this year and that means any amount can be expected. A time of 1 second behind a decent Derby winning time for such an easy win looks very good. She has had 3 runs and 3 wins and no horse has got near her this year, like Australia she travels, has a kick and stays. I love this time of year as we have two promising winners to get excited about and now I want to see them tested in the hope that at the end of the year the accolades handed out by trainers and supporters can be held up with form as well and rightly called a great horse. Lets not see them wrapped up and protected however, let's see them race against the best around.
Well done Bob et all on Australia -I did a small r/f with Kingston and an e/w on the 2nd -two very good horses! Us Bangor City fans are hoping Blue Army does the job tonight -also like Roto s horse in the 8 45 -ymlaen!
CAPE SUMMIT 825 lingfield been told this is expected to run very close currently 9/2 so nearly a free bet ew GL if you play
We had a good run for our money, just ran into a better horse on the day. I must have a few bob on Blue Army for sentimental reasons...Onwards & Forever Forwards
Very dissapointed with the ride Robbie Downey gave Tohugo there held him up and met trouble at least 3 times when going for a run up the inside. Thought he would have made more use of him but i won't give up on him for that run for sure, a win is imminent. Talitha Kum was all set to win but i guess the weight just got to her as she was never going a yard for Chris Hayes so a disaapointing end to what was a good day watching the racing.
"Slowly into stride, soon behind, ridden over 2f out, headway but still plenty to do entering final furlong, switched left final 150yds, ran on strongly, not reach leaders (op 16/1)" Typical Baby Strange run. Why doesn't someone give it a trouble free run?
England and Honduras called off during the game due to lightning storms, expect half hour delay at least. Fecking weather in America...Golf getting delayed all week and now the soccer!! I can't recall a lightning storm ever holding a game up but I do remember a heavy hail shower holding proceedings up once.
Must look up the dictionary definition of “crib” (other than bed for an infant)... Those of us that noticed years ago that Aidan O’Brien was baptised on the Blarney Stone try to just go with the evidence. Australia travelled the best throughout the race. His jockey kept him off the pace but out of trouble on the outside of the field, threw down his challenge with two furlongs to go and was a length and a quarter too good for the runner-up in the last half furlong. He was the best horse on the day and a worthy winner. The time for the race was very good considering that the ground was not fast because the front two – one of them a stablemate of the winner – went off far too fast for their own good. At this stage nothing has been proved. In quite recent memory, a horse from the same stable raced exclusively against his own generation and was beaten attempting the Triple Crown and subsequently failed to beat the older horses. I have no doubt that last year’s Derby winner would have been retired this week but for the fact that Coolmore sold him to new owners thus relinquishing the rights to that decision.
Are you suggesting Australia isn't top class because Camelot didn't beat his elders and couldn't quite win the Leger? I've seen it all now. Australia is clearly the class of that field. Absolutely no doubt about it. It comes across as very churlish to suggest otherwise.
I am not suggesting that Australia is not top class, but at the same stage of his career Camelot was being touted as outstanding and that proved to be fiction. He was the best of a moderate bunch of three year olds. I am waiting to see what happens next. It looked to me that Australia was coming to the end of his stamina in the last hundred and fifty yards to the Epsom post. Perhaps he went to the front too soon and was pulling up in front? I do not know. With the prospect of easier ground for the Irish Derby, I am wondering if the Derby winner might head for Sandown’s ten furlongs instead of a rematch with Kingston Hill. And in the original post to which I was replying, I think that beefy meant to say “crab” in a non-crustacean sense...
Well done with Australia lads, I opposed him just on the price but the 9/4 around was fair enough considering the form and the hype. He could have been called the winner a long way out, JOB just kept it simple, out of trouble and was going like the winner a long way out. This was a very decent Derby I think, Kingston Hill surprised me, he really picked up when the going got tough, had that been soft ground he might have took a bit of catching. Australia the best horse of course, value for more than the winning margin I think, he could have been given a more efficient but risky ride, with the speed he has, I think 10f will be his ideal trip and would rather see him in the Eclipse than the Irish Derby. I said a while ago, if he didnt win by half the track you would still have some people having a go at Obrien but I think the horse has proved him right, went close in a good Guineas and has now won a good Derby, hes a serious horse and id be surprised if he didnt prove it again when taking on older horses.
