when we signed AJ I thought that was a statement of intent by the club, Getting rid of him now when he has started to show us what he can do is a big backwards step. Of course there could always be issues behind the scenes with the lad...

Wasn't he our top scorer and top assists last season? Why would we sell him?

There is more to come from AJ, I just hope its for us, but if he wants to leave and the price is right, then he will go, but it would be a shame.

On sky but I'll be amazed if we let him go out on loan just to reduce the wage bill

Exactly this, it's a quiet time before the World Cup starts and the transfer window opens, the red tops have got to fill their columns with something.

I'd put money on this not being made up.

All it would take from the player is one 'can't wait to leave this club' comment and we'd be looking to offload his big wages.

Is he more effective than someone like Noone, at Cardiff, or is it just when he can be arsed?

TBH, I'm not sure ......... he's a very frustrating player for certain.

I agree Smug it wouldn't take much for him to be away but to be fair to him he did say he wanted to stay even if we got relegated.
To be honest I have him similar to Seb and JC in that if he stays ok if he goes thanks and Toodle pip. Has never ever looked an £11 mil player to me. Has improved under Gus but needs consistently good performances. That may well happen with an attack minded team and overlapping full backs.

If it is true it's a massive own goal by the club, to let a £10m asset leave on a season long loan and return in the final year of his contract almost makes the Colback situation look like a shrewd bit of business.

It's all guesswork but if it's true that we're trying to punt him, and getting no offers, we have a problem.

I'd be inclined to look at who Everton might part with and try for a permanent deal.

If he went on loan and played well under Martinez they'd have to consider a purchase as it would alert other clubs.

The players are wise to the 'run down your contract' routine now and the club has to catch us fast.

Not only that, the supporters have to come to terms with us selling players like Henderson, Sessegnon & Mignolet who may be hinting about doing it. The good old days of contracts having some kind of validity are over and we have to move with the times.

We got very good money for Henderson, Mignolet and Sessegnon, we would get a small percentage of his worth for Johnson in the final year of his contract.

There could be some legs in the story if the club are trying to balance the books and use him as a "loss leader" to get the wages down but In my opinion it would be a crazy decision because the club would need to buy a replacement and pay their wages which would counter any savings made.

By the way, the story has just been on SSN.
