Sunderland, Newcastle and Liverpool have NEVER won the Premier League title [the breakaway competition run by the FA]. All three have however won the Football League First Division title [which is today's Championship title]. That small point aside, here's how I think the table will finish.

    1. Man City
    2. Arsenal
    3. Chelsea
    4. Man Utd
    5. Liverpool
    6. Everton
    7. Spurs
    8. Stoke
    9. Palace
    10. Swansea
    11. Southampton
    12. QPR
    13. West Ham
    14. Hull
    15. Villa
    16. West Brom
    17. Leicester
    18. Newcastle
    19. Sunderland
    20. Burnley

Look on the bright side Fredor, now that football Pre-1992 seems to have been expunged from history, Sunderland have only been relegated on three occasions. <laugh>

He's trying to be a smart arse not using capital letters for Premier League. Except no one would ever refer to the top tier of English football as 'the premier league' as there is a League called the Premier League.

It says that sunderland have spent 14 seasons in the premier league! Using your logic, this must be wrong???? Besides, I have no pride in the fact that we have won the 'top league' 6 times! Last time was in 1936! This leaves me disappointed and rather sad that we were once a top side but been largely poor to mediocre ever since!

OK time to explain, listen up !!

One might see an article in the Chronicle

The premier ( Adjective) City ( Noun ) in the North east of England is Sunderland, which would be perfectly good English

An adjective before the noun describes the noun in the case of the Barclays premiere league it is being used as a noun whereas I believe should only be used in the context of a government leader , at other times it is an adjective

Hence the PREMIER ( Capitals Gen Lee) football league in England changed it's name from Division one to the Premier league in 1989

Indestructible If it were not that you are from the North East I would take your money

It could equally have been named the XYZ League but it still would have remained the premier league in England

I remember watching the pundits on the Bairdvision even back in the seventies referring to the First Division then as the 'top flight', 'the premier division', 'the premier league' because strictly that is what it was.

Just because some money men came in later, rebranded the sport, kicked out the sportsmen and put broadcasters in charge and renamed the first tier it didn't change a thing, the top division, tier, flight, league call itwhat you will was also the premier, the first, the top etc.

It's a shame when people think of The Premier League as being the time when football came out of the dark ages when, in reality, that's when the rot set in.
