I think Hodgson is keen to show to the players and the media that he is certain and in charge. Naming the 23 straight up and pretty much showing his 1st eleven against Peru stops all of that second guessing. I'm not saying he is stubborn enough not to make changes as the tournament progresses but this is the team and it's hard to argue against it.

Problem for England is that any italians, Uraguayans and Costa Ricans doing their research on these games will know to target Joohnson. Actually thought Milner did okay there the other day
That spread like an epidemic amongst the team. I noticed Steven Davis sporting one during the friendly between Uraguay and N.Ireland, and he always seemed to be slightly on the periphery of the in-crowd.
I'm sure I watched Jordan Henderson playing right back for Liverpool in the Europa League in the season just gone. Didn't do a bad job IIRC. Surely he would be a better option than Johnson?
