Redknapp: QPR will learn from past transfer mistakes

    5 Jun 2014 12:56:00

The R's made a string of signings last time they were in the Premier League, including the likes of Loic Remy, Stephane Mbia and Esteban Granero, but could not avoid relegation
Harry Redknapp is determined to avoid the same mistakes that saw QPR relegated from the Premier League in 2012-13.

Redknapp replaced Mark Hughes as manager at Loftus Road in November 2012, but was unable to prevent the London side from dropping down to the Championship before guiding them back via the play-offs.

QPR completed a host of high-profile signings the last time they graced the top flight, but Redknapp is planning on a different strategy during his transfer window recruitment drive.

"We need to make sure we get the balance right when it comes to new players," he told the club's official website.

"We'll need some experience in there, but the most important thing is to bring in players that you can rely on.

"We want players who will come in and have a go for you, that's the key.

"Last time there were too many players brought in who weren't really up to the job, or who weren't totally dedicated to doing a job for QPR.

"I think they might have seen it as a pay-day for them, they probably didn't even know who QPR were.

"What we've got to make sure is that we get the right type of lads in, and then we'll give it a real go next year

Well, the good thing about those words is that Harry has already applied that principle to last season which has bought success. He did bring in the 'right sort' and helped to create a band of brothers. If he and the board continue in that style, we can give PL survival a damn good go.

Before Harry is berated for saying it some way into the season, let me say it. This is a tough league an there are no guarantees, even with the 'right sort' on board.

Oamaru? Is that as far from Leicester as you can physically get? I have a lasting legacy of time spent in your part of the world - a 3 inch scar on my hip, acquired as a result of a drinking accident in Timaru 27 years ago.

This is basically what TF said on SS News last week. Fed up with being buttfucked by agents and greedy, lazy players.

I don't think we will, instead of getting the wrong foreigners in, we will get the wrong old has been British players in.

We would do whatever it took to sign our targets, that was wrong. Offer them a reasonable deal and if they refuse, **** em and get some players who want to play for us.

I entered a comp for farest flung fox and thought it was a banker then someone from the far far south of Dunedin stuck their nose in. Glad you have such fond memories of Timaru. Under 20 world cup here next year, come back for another look.
