I can't find the article I've read before that mentioned the pubs down Humber St. There was the Alexandra Inn, formerly the Humber Tavern. Listed in the Lost Pubs guide. White's trade directory of 1840, lists 2, 4 Bettison Wm, 5 Humber street, Brownlow & Mitchell, Humber street, Jaques & Co. Humber street and several in the surrounding area as brewers. 21 and 27 were eating houses. Pubs Crown and Anchor, Thomas Eve, 38 Humber street Golden Cup, Seth Gregory, 3 Humber street Humber Tavern, James Ridsdale, 32 Humber street Labour-in-Vain, Edward Brown, Humber street Old Lincolnshire Tavern, Richard Young, 43 Humber st Shakespeare Tavern, Henry Senior, 64 Humber street Sir John Falstaff, John Cook, 1 Humber stteet Beer Houses HarveyThomas, 61 Humber st Waugh Rachel, 1 Humber street There's also some listed as 'slop sellers' I reckon I've drunk in the modern equivalent. Those are just the ones listed in the Directory for that time. There's also many more in the immediate area. Whites Directory 1840 Lost pubs of Hull.
Thanks for that. Very interesting. I think there was more life in the Old Town in those days then there is now.
No way man. It’s totally clown foot historic. You can shove your facts and researched information up your arse. Anyway, the very fact it’s got something to do with the council means it’s guaranteed to be 100% bad. All councils are bad and just do really bad and nasty things. I’ll not hear another word on this matter. I’m still frothing at the mouth from yesterday. Let’s go and burn down Guildhall now and demand a Clarkson/UKIP coalition to be instated to run our council.
