Young had one year left on his contract and could have gone for nowt next summer. They got £17m for a lad they could have lost for zilch.

Man Utd got a very good player a year earlier and £17m will be easily made up if they get to the knock out stages of the European Cup anyway.

Liverpool have a talented young player that may develop into an excellent Kop favourite but had to pay £16m (£20m with add ons) and we got £that amount for a young lad who cost us nothing.

The thing is and this is my point all along, both Villa and ourselves are looked at now as clubs selling their best players and not clubs with ambitions beyond survival. Young has opened the floodgates at Villa and Downing (maybe even Judas) could be next. Hopefully, we have staved off the Gyan departure and Henderson will be our only high profile exodus this summer.
