I'm struggling to see where exactly it says that Sunderland have won 6 Premier League titles. I can see something about top division titles, but I'm pretty sure that also includes things like the old division 1.

 

Must be the sun getting to me this afternoon, but, I have to agree with Fredor with this one.

What Fredor is saying is that Sunderland have won English Footballs Top Division On Six occasions.
Simple Fact, so like it or lump it.

This might come as a surprise too many, but football did not start in 1992 with the Greed Is Good League.

I have no doubt you would struggle to understand anything, The old named First Division was the number one or premier league of football in England, When the money moved in to take over football in the UK it was inevitable that they needed to rename their product , they could have picked names like First League, Number one league etc but as it was the premier league at the time someone obviously said why not just call it the Premier League BUT to the chagrin of a lot of people even with all of their money they were unable to erase history and the likes of Aston Villa and others retain the right to claim their record of wins in the best of the best or premier league

PS Newcastle have won the premier league title the same number of times as Manchester City and Chelsea

The Premier League has only existed since 1992. Please remember that it is a separate organization to the Football League. Sunderland have 6 top division Football League titles which no-one is disputing, yet have not won once since the 1935/36 season. A season which was 56 years before the Premier League's inaugural season.
